Joy-Ann Reid asked the Trumpcare shill attempting to mislead Americans a question he could not answer even as he continued to push the free market for healthcare.
Joy-Ann Reid tramples healthcare free market fallacy
Joy-Ann Reid asked the most important question not asked of politicians and shills supporting Trumpcare that all must ask. Tom Binion, the director of congressional relations for The Heritage Foundation, appeared on her panel. There is an important interchange in the excerpted video that one must watch.
Jonathan Cohn, HuffPost Senior National Correspondent, pointed out an absolute.
“Relative to what we have today,” Cohn said. “If you pass the Senate bill, pass the House bill, substantially more American, in the millions, will be struggling relative to today.”
Reid asked Binion to chime in on Cohn’s statement.
“It is faulty logic to say that every dollar the Federal Government spends on health insurance is the only dollar that can help people,” Binion said. “We know from two hundred years of American history that the free market and free enterprise deliver the best products. Why would we take that out of the health market?”
“You are giving us theoreticals,” Reid responded. “We are telling you that if you take the absolute dollars that you spend to cover people with Medicaid to give people insurance cards and you reduce that by a trillion, that means fewer people can be helped by the program. If you repeal the Medicaid Expansion, everyone who was added to Medicaid because of the expansion comes off of Medicaid because the expansion is no longer there. Theoreticals about the free market does not give people healthcare. … Talking about the free market makes you feel good”. It does not give anyone a medical card.”
Binion came back with the standard Conservative talking point about the government not able to solve our problems. Then he lied about the bill not kicking anyone off of Medicare.
Reid then asked the most important question.
“Then why weren’t those people insured under the free market system we had before Obamacare,” Reid asked.
Binion’s answer was pathetic as he claimed many could have but did not choose to do so. He then said that Trumpcare does not gut the Medicaid Expansion. Joy-Ann Reid told him his statement was not true.
