Kelly Macias, a DailyKos writer intent on exploring difficult subjects (VIDEO)

August 19, 2017 By Egberto Willies

I met Kelly Macias at Netroots Nation 2017, our relatively new DailyKos writer. I interviewed her live on my Pacifica Network, KPFT 90.1 FM Houston, Politics Done Right show.

Who is Kelly Macias?

She is a writer, educator, and activist whose work focuses on race, gender, identity, communication, and conflict. She has worked with organizations in the non-profit, education, government and international sectors and has worked in 15 countries throughout Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. She has a Ph.D. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from Nova Southeastern University and can often be found working out her own life’s conflicts on her yoga mat. Her work has been featured in Cultural Studies-Critical Methodologies, The Feminist Wire, The Baltimore Sun, Twenties Unscripted,

Macias has a PhD. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from Nova Southeastern University and can often be found working out her own life’s conflicts on her yoga mat. Her work has been featured in Cultural Studies-Critical Methodologies, The Feminist Wire, The Baltimore Sun, Twenties Unscripted, Rain, and Thunder: A Radical Feminist Journal of Discussion and Activism, Teaching Peace Through Popular Culture and The Qualitative Report.

An interview with DailyKos writer Kelly Macias

Dr. Macias said she attended Netroots Nation 2017 to connect with her Progressive colleagues from around the country. She said it also gave her the opportunity to connect with contributors and members of the DailyKos community. Dr. Macias stated that DailyKos is important to the Progressive Movement because it is about news and action where people are not just writing but activating.

Though she writes on several topics, Dr. Macias includes race and gender in her pieces. She said pushback is never far given that our Progressive family is not a monolith. Some sects need to be coaxed on subjects that are not readily discussed.

Dr. Macias presents a new and necessary voice to the DailyKos community
