Rev. William Barber in no uncertain terms proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that what the GOP of today represents is entirely anathema to what Jesus Christ represents even as they attempt to assert their Christian moral superiority.
Barber makes an assessment that will be hard to swallow for many real rank-and-file Republicans that they must, however, evaluate.

Joy-Ann Reid asked William Barber what he would make of Alabama Republicans electing Roy Moore; a radical Right Ring politician removed twice from his position as Alabama Supreme Court Chief justice.
Barber’s gave her the answer that every Republican should listen to and understand. Their stance on many social issues is astounding when looked at in the aggregate.
“One of the things Joy, and I think we have to own,” said Rev. Barber. “There is not a lot of difference between Roy Moore and the other candidate or many of the extremists in the GOP. They have become anti-gay, anti-black and brown immigrants, anti-universal healthcare, anti-living wages, anti-labor rights, anti-voting rights, anti-environmental justice, anti-criminal justice reform, anti-women’s rights.”
The reverend then pointed out the dichotomy in their stances when contrasted against their supposed moral template.
“The problem with that is, the things that they have been “anti” are counter to the things that Jesus, for instance, was Pro,” Barber said. “You know Jesus was pro-lifting the poor, pro-living wages, pro-helping those on the margins, pro-immigrant, pro-equal protection under the law. So when you see people trying to distance themselves from Roy Moore, there’s really not a lot of difference when you actually look at the voting records and the policies. One thing I’m sure of, Jesus would not be waving a gun being advised by a white nationalist ideologue like Banner and talking about tax cuts for the wealthy. I’m clear on that in terms of the scripture, and it’s hard for people to distance themselves from him when in fact the difference is more style rather than substance.”
And that is the important point. While many Republicans continue to be embarrassed by many in the current crop of Republicans getting elected, these folks will vote no different than the current Republican voting orthodoxy. What they are seeing is a reflection of themselves not filtered by a false facade. It ‘s hard to look at, but it is the reality they must face now and the foreseeable future.
