Obama is back and engaging, now on Roy Moore! Thank you Mr. President?

December 11, 2017 By Egberto Willies

Most know that Trump is a clear and present danger to America. The polls now reflect that. Fighting his policies both locally and domestically are existential. With that comes ensuring Trump is unable to get his posse into office that will, in fact, complete his fascist dictate.  In that light, it is way overdue for President Obama to engage. Well, he has a second time in as many weeks.

Look, I understand that ex-presidents try to stay out of the limelight. However, we are talking about the survival of our democracy.

Obama entered the Alabama Senatorial Special Election by lending his voice to encourage Alabamians to voter for Doug Jones. CNN reports the following.

(CNN)Former President Barack Obama is adding his voice to the Alabama Senate race, imploring voters to go to the polls Tuesday to reject the candidacy of Roy Moore as part of an aggressive effort by Democrats to try and counter President Donald Trump’s full-throated endorsement of the controversial Republican candidate.

“This one’s serious,” Obama says in the call. “You can’t sit it out.”

Two Democratic officials familiar with the Alabama race tell CNN that Obama recorded the phone message in recent days, at the very time Trump stepped up his own involvement in the campaign with a recorded message. Obama does not mention Moore by name.

“Doug Jones is a fighter for equality, for progress,” Obama says. “Doug will be our champion for justice. So get out and vote, Alabama.”

Obama’s message to voters — intended to specifically reach black voters whose turnout is critical for Democratic candidate Jones — comes on the eve of a special election that has drawn extraordinary national attention and divided the Republican Party over whether sexual allegations against Moore make him unfit for office.

President Obama came out last week urging Americans to be vigilant. He warned Americans about the similarities with Nazi Germany and what is occurring right now in America. One hopes we hear much more from him. His levelheadedness and intellect may help get some of those supporting the caricature of a president we have to finally see what a president looks and sounds like even if a year too late.
