A few weeks ago Michael Che threw shade at the Democratic Party for taking the black vote for granted. He said the following.
“On Tuesday we saw exactly why Republicans try to keep black people from voting,” Michael Che said. “Ninety-eight percent of black women voted for Doug Jones bringing the total number of black women who voted for Roy Moore to just Cheryl. Damn Ms. Cheryl. Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez tweeted ‘black women led us to victory, and we can’t take that for granted.’ Hmm. But I bet you will.”
While funny it is truer than not. Even Charles Barkley scolded the Democratic Party for taken both blacks and poor whites for granted.

For which The Intercept’s Shaun King wrote the piece titled “Charles Barkley got it right: Democrats need to respect the black voters putting them in power.” Also this shocker,
King was even more explicit on this in his article in the Daily News titled “Senate Republicans continue to blow away their Democratic counterparts with hirings of new black staff members” that is a must-read. This reality sadly shows that Democratic Rhetoric is not always matching its actions.
Alabama Democratic Senator-elect is doing the right thing. He is coming to power because of a support from the black community that exceeded their registered voter base. Politico reported the following.
Sen.-elect Doug Jones (D-Ala.) has hired former transportation official and congressional aide Dana Gresham as his new chief of staff.
Jones will be the only Senate Democrat to have an African-American chief of staff once Gresham comes on board. Two Senate Republicans, Sens. Tim Scott of South Carolina and Jerry Moran of Kansas, have black chiefs of staff. …
Jones has made hiring a diverse staff a priority since he staged an upset win over Republican Roy Moore in last month’s special Senate election in Alabama.
No one is asking for a quota system. However, if over time the party that purports to be the party of civil rights and inclusivity, has the vast majority of its upper leadership less diverse than the Republican Party, then it is only rhetoric. Let me not, however, allow any false equivalences to seep in here. While the Democratic Party’s leadership is whitewashed and must better reflect the actual voters within the party, the policies the party advocates are orders of magnitude better for all Americans.
