The GOP used lies and deception to malign Obamacare, the Affordable Care Act (ACA). These lies made many Republicans complicit in the sabotage of the program since its inception. Just maybe this new assault by Republicans on the health care insurance of the vast majority of working Americans will open the eyes of many.
The newest target of the Republican health care sabotage affects most Americans and is yet another gift to corporate America at the expense of the poor and middle-class.
The New York Times recently reported the following.
Representatives Devin Nunes of California and Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania, both Republicans, recently introduced a bill, supported by party leaders, to suspend the mandate, canceling any penalties that would be imposed for any year from 2015 to 2018.
“The employer mandate is a job-killer, a wage-killer and a business-killer,” Mr. Kelly said.
But Tom Leibfried, a health care lobbyist at the A.F.L.-C.I.O., called the proposals to repeal or weaken the employer mandate “a very bad idea.”
“The Affordable Care Act was built on a framework of shared responsibility,” Mr. Leibfried said. “If you get rid of the employer mandate, you will see people lose coverage from their employers.”
With all the noise surrounding government shutdown, DACA, hush money to keep porn stars from revealing relationships with the president, and much more, the substantive damage the GOP is inflicting on every day Americans mostly goes under-reported. The Republican philosophy is Ayn Randian. It follows the anti-social notion of “survival of the fittest” in a society where some were born on third base, where others had a running start.
The pilfering of the average American to enrich business’ growth and profit margin will continue until Americans send a message. That message must be sent decisively in 2018. But to ensure Americans go out and vote these evil politicians out of office requires that they understand they are getting screwed and by whom.
