After the word of Trump’s attempt at firing Special Counsel Mueller, Lawrence O’Donnell’s panel turned their concerns to American institutions. Joy-Ann Reid expressed little confidence in Paul Ryan; In fact, she slammed him pretty hard.
Joy-Ann Reid did not mince her words as she excoriated Paul Rynn for being soft on Donald Trump throughout his administration.

The sub-segment started out with Ari Melber contrasting Richard Nixon as an institutionalist and Trump as a rogue player. He pointed out that since Nixon was a crook, he abided by the rules of the American institutions in the long run.
The concern most have is that Trump does not believe in institutions. In fact, he wants to trample them. You hear his cohort speaking about the Deep State as if there is some entity within the government that is out to get Trump. Trump is a part of the plutocracy. The only reason the wards of the plutocracy would come after him is if it is evident that he presents a clear and present danger to them.
Joy-Ann Reid response to the concerns followed the straight talk we expect from her.
“I wonder what is going through the mind of one Paul Ryan,” Joy-Ann Reid said. “Because at some point in what you just said Ari, is the question that we don’t know what Congress thinks about. Up to now Paul Ryan has been nothing but a toady. He has been nothing but a supplicant to Donald Trump. He has allowed every degradation of the institution of the presidency while the co-equal branches of government lay around just in supine terror of him tweeting at them. Will Paul Ryan if Donald Trump refuses a lawful subpoena, refuses to respond to the special counsel, refuses to answer questions and utterly creates a constitutional crisis; does Paul Ryan have the guts, does he have the courage to stand up to the President of the United States. He has shown absolutely no courage. Zero up until now. None. But it will be on Paul Ryan at that point to defend the institutions of this democracy. I don’t have any faith in him. But anyone who does maybe should start emailing him and calling him now.”
Ryan and the Republicans won’t act until they are sure that there is irrefutable evidence that most Americans are able to digest. When that occurs they will act. The problem is by then America would see them as a party coddling a corrupt president worse so than during Watergate.
