It is clear that Nayyera Haq felt she had to confront Billy Bush on what otherwise was turning out to be a love fest on Real Time with Bill Maher. The audience was on her side including times when the males on the panel either tried to mansplain things or interrupt her.
“It’s something many women do feel like they have to trade on their sexuality to make it in the workplace,” Nayyera Haq. “And the scariest thing about how women like me viewed it wasn’t the interaction between you between you and Donald Trump, but was your colleague coming in afterward and not knowing that everything that had been said before her. And it affirms the suspicion we’ve always had that men in the workplace don’t respect us the same way. And I think the easiest, honestly, the solution to that is for when people are in a room where everybody looks like you and somebody says something racist or sexist to have that social courage to say ‘that’s not okay.’ They call it social courage for a reason because that is more difficult than joining a rally of 20,000, people who think exactly like you. And because those are the rooms where that change really needs to happen. And that’s something that every man can do on behalf of your daughters your mothers your friends and your sister.”
Nayyera was the only woman and person of color on the panel. She held her own even as many times the men tried to talk over her. Check out the Bill Bush/Donald Trump lewd video here.
