GOP ACA Sabotage Effect: Maryland insurers ask for double-digit hikes

GOP ACA Sabotage Effect - Maryland insurers ask for double-digit hikes

GOP ACA Sabotage Effect is our new series that will continue to point out the damage the GOP tax cut scam along with other deliberate acts are doing to the healthcare and personal economies of every middle-class and poor American.

The Hill reported the following.

Premiums for ObamaCare plans in Maryland are poised to rise substantially next year. CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, which is the largest insurer in the Mid-Atlantic, has asked state regulators for an average 26.4 percent increase. The range of hikes runs from an 18.5 percent increase for its HMO plans to a 91.4 percent for its PPO plans. Kaiser Permanente has asked for a 37.4 percent increase.

Insurers have said a number of policies being promoted by the Trump administration are to blame for rising premiums and the departure of healthy people from the risk pool, including the repeal of ObamaCare’s individual mandate penalty. The administration also made it easier for insurers to sell cheaper, skimpier plans. “There’s been a series of actions taken by the current administration that have undermined enrollment,” said Chet Burrell, president and CEO of CareFirst. … Burrell said if the Trump administration would approve the program, premiums could fall by as much as 20 or 30 percent.

Donald Trump and the Republicans are playing with the health most Americans not only for ideological reasons but to make big bucks for a few as they throw more and more Americans out of their healthcare. The ACA in the form left by President Obama and butchered by the Republicans had its problems. That said, it was still functional.

The ACA sabotage is now in full vogue and Americans are going to see the brunt of it when they get their new rates in October. It will do Progressives and Democrats well to start messaging appropriately to their constituents. It is now that minds cauterize with the message politicians and other groups are putting out.
