My good friend, Professor Cody Pogue writes insightful posts on his Facebook wall that becomes required reading. This one should make every anti-choice Republican take pause and realize they are really pro-abortion.
Fair-minded people know that pro-choice does not mean pro-abortion. After-all, abortion is a personal thing between a woman, her doctor, and possibly her church and her God. The state has no business involving itself. Those who claim to believe in small government wanting it out of their lives more so than others should understand that.
Cody has the analysis that few Republicans will want to admit to because it blows a hole in their modus operandi as it relates to their anti-choice stance. He wrote the following Facebook post.
If you vote Republican, you are pro-abortion. The only way to make abortion less common is to provide contraception, sexual education, reduce poverty, and a light at the end of the tunnel. Making abortion illegal will only push it underground, make it more common, and make it more deadly for the young women who try to give themselves abortions at home.
To be pro-life, you must stop trying to simply make abortion illegal and actually start trying to reduce the abortion rate. To be pro-life, you should stop voting to increase the level of air pollution in our city so that we can reduce the cancer rate. To be pro-life, you must vote to make sure every person has access to healthcare. To be pro-life, you must support programs to help poor mothers support their children. To be pro-life, you must support investment in science and medical research that can save lives.
Voting to force women to give themselves abortions at home does nothing to reduce abortion and it doesn’t make someone pro-life. If anything, it increases the abortion rate.
It is hard to believe that the Evangelical Leaders and other purported pro-life anti-choice fundamentalist cannot see the correlation between fatality of their positions not only with abortion but as Cody points our, much more.

16 – Sadists Explain Respect for Life – Let the Carnage Begin!
The Catholic Church just came out in favor of Trump as he is “Pro-Life”, I’m sure the same way he ”Digs Coal.” Here is how I have come to see the ‘Pro-Life’ movement.
A few years ago, I heard about the animal rights group horrified that dogs from pounds were being used for animal testing in the medical and cosmetic industry. They industriously lobbied and succeeded in banning the sale of pound dogs for testing. The result, as the laws still require animal testing of medicines, cosmetics, and other products prior to their sale to humans, the puppy mills went into overdrive to supply the need for animals in the labs. As the pounds didn’t have the resources to take care of the abandoned dogs and had lost their revenue stream to offset some of the costs, the number of pound dogs killed increased. So the net result of the ‘pro-life’ animal rights protests was to double the number of animals killed per year.
(I never heard a word about protesting the use of cosmetics. I have yet to figure out the societal benefit of those. I have heard a lot about the health risks to manicurists. Nail polish remover is incredibly toxic.)
The human ‘Pro-Life’ movement seems as beneficial as the animal one.
Per reports and the demographics on the NIH website, the number of unborn babies killed by violence to the mother is approximately equal to the number lost to abortion. The “Pro-lifers” are awfully quiet about protecting those babies and when they do mention the subject, it is all about the protection of the fetus. The life and well being of the mother apparently has no value.
The estimates of pregnant women experiencing violence range from 16-25%! In all of the ‘Pro-Life’ stories about the babies ‘rescued’, I have never heard of anyone ASKING THE MOTHER IF SHE WAS SAFE.
We just had two cases in the news recently. One was a boyfriend giving his pregnant girlfriend bleach to drink to try to cause a miscarriage. The other was a man who took his infant child away from its mother, went outside in broad daylight and drowned it a pond in front of on lookers. They were too shocked to do anything until too late. The papers focused only on the child. I wonder what shape he left the mother in. They could hear her calling to bring the baby back.
One of the stories I read recently about the ‘rescue’ by the Pro-Lifer. The woman outside the clinic was confronted by the pro-lifer and the father of her unborn child. He was a deadbeat who had several other children by other women and didn’t provide for any of them. He tearfully promised to the woman that he would care for her child and they went off together. The Pro-lifer was busy congratulating herself on ‘preserving the family and the life of the child’. The bystander observing this asked if she knew the couple. The pro lifer replied that she had never seen either of them before. For all she knew, the man could have taken the woman home and shot her.
When I first graduated college, I rented a room in a house with a mother and her two daughters in CT. The oldest daughter was just starting college. The mother was an ex Catholic who had divorced her husband when her eldest daughter was 5. Her ex-husband was abusive, but highly thought of in the community. She had also believed that she was the luckiest woman alive to marry him when she first got married. He had a Jekyll & Hyde personality. She lost a baby boy when her husband picked her up and threw her on the couch. Right after, he ‘gave’ her to his best friend to be raped. “I’ve wanted you for a long time and now I have permission.” Her permission was irrelevant.
The final straw was when he used her head to split the 2X4 stud in the wall and her 5 year old daughter had to go to the neighbor’s house next door to call the police to keep Daddy from killing Mommy. She took her daughters to Mass after that, but left the Catholic church after having to endure the angry glares from the priest for divorcing – Mr. ‘Perfect’
The percentage of abortions performed because of medical reasons is about 20%. Doctor’s are not God. They cannot save everyone. Sometimes they have to choose which one they can save. Access to birth control would prevent most of these situations. The number of abortions has dropped to a worldwide low because of increased access to birth control and other access to health care.
The ‘religious right’ policy is to limit access to birth control to ensure that the children suffer as well as the women. Miss ‘Salinger’ (?), the lady who was active in the start of the birth control movement witnessed several brothers and sisters die because no matter how much wishful thinking her parents had, they couldn’t feed all of them. She watched them starve to death.
A lot of the ‘religious right’ abstinence only ‘family planning’ neglects to mention that sex results in babies. I remember Loretta Lyn’s statement about her first marketing photo. She was eighteen years old, a mother of three, and said she was finally starting to figure out where all the babies were coming from. When she went to her doctor for birth control, he said at eighteen she should be wondering about having her first child, not trying to figure out how not to have more. And of course with our Groper in Chief, abstinence isn’t an option for women; it is a restricted privilege revocable by any male the woman happens to come in contact with, which is also the theme of the Catholic Church. And of course it is always HER fault; the man is completely blameless because he has the holy penis.
Trump and by chosen association, the bishops, have come out in favor of rape. Their policy is that a woman’s body must be available to a man at all times and she has no right to say no. The Washington Post had an excellent editorial on the Rape Culture being a bastion of male privilege and nothing will be done until the men starting working against it. The Catholic and the Catholic League (the Catholic version of ISIS) have come out in favor of the rape culture as an important theological doctrine.
(I don’t think Father listens to half the vatican nonsense he repeats. I do. I’m used to this. My mother was furious with me once when I refused to sign a document swearing I was not related to her as part of her estate planning. Father also stressed how God wants us to worship our ‘superiors’ more than God. Verily I say unto thee – Thy dick is NOT MY GOD! )

It was my ex, the lover of military history, who told me this parallel; in WWI, the era of the ‘religious’ fervor of sacrificing yourself for King and Crown, (I has a title, therefore I is a military genius) the British had their soldiers charge the German machine gunners. It was a grand success. The German machine gunners were so sickened by the carnage, they had mental breakdowns. The vatican has the same pre WWI mindset. I don’t need no stinking medical degree to determine health care policy. I has a penis!
Trump has shown repeated he only thinks with his lower head; with no forethought to policy or consequences. You all are supposed to have access to all this demographic data. Do ANY of you bother to read or ask about it!? And once read, work out a systematic policy to REDUCE carnage. What is the Trump policy – RESTRICT ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE, ESPECIALLY FOR WOMEN. What was his slogan! Repeal Obama Care – No plan for replacing it with ANYTHING. A large portion of the public and Congress don’t even know that Obama Care is another name for the Affordable Care Act. I’ve heard the insurance companies were using it as a feeding frenzy and that Medicaid is the most efficient form of health insurance. If true, expand it.
I have been researching the demographics on abortion – some ‘fun’ facts –Most women who have abortions are older women stressed to the max caring for family members and literally having to decide who lives and who dies. The number of abortions is at a record low since Roe vs. Wade. The number of abortions in this country is 1 per 70 Catholics. Out of 70 Catholics no one is willing to help one desperate woman? The lady on the Women’s Rally bus agreed. She had a friend considering an abortion because she was overwhelmed. She went to all the churches in town and could find only two people who were willing to help her.
The neo-natal and maternal death rates in this country is appalling because of lack of access to pre-natal/Gyn care. Making abortion illegal does not decrease the abortion rate it only increases the maternal death rate. The suicide rate among poor white rural women is climbing rapidly – maybe due to unwanted pregnancies and no choice in whether or not to become pregnant in the first place and opiate addiction
Catholic women have more abortions than the average. (Wishful thinking is not a substitute for contraception.)
These reports remind me of the movie “The Mission” from back in the 80’s. The ‘holy men’ were disparaging the Native South Americans because they killed their own babies. The Jesuits explained it was unfortunately true. Two infants could survive. If a third was born, it was immediately put to death, as the parents could only carry two while fleeing the ‘christian’ slave traders. It was the ‘holy men’ who created the life or death decision.
So the ‘pro life’ ‘theology’ seems to be – It is only men who have the right to murder unborn babies. If you complain, we will further limit your access to pre-natal care and increase the carnage. That’ll learn you to get uppity. The latest Republican health care plan eliminates health care for a lot of pre existing medical conditions. That is one of my ‘pet names’ for my daughter. I found out that I was carrying her and being laid off the same week. I was the sole family bread winner. I was able to obtain a new job within a month, but my pregnancy was considered a “pre-existing medical condition” under my new employer’s health plan. I had to COBRA (self pay) health insurance for myself during the pregnancy.
So let us look the behavior of the church hierarchy and the politicians.
The response of the previous entity in possession of the vatican was essentially to declare its dick god and offer our children in sacrifice to it. They have done nothing but reinforce this doctrine from the top down in the seven years since. PA Bill 1947 & the voting ‘instructions’ were the last straw. You can also now count me among the ex Catholics; the world’s largest religious denomination.
The behavior of the politicians has been equally appalling this year. I took notice of the New York Times article this week and start insisting that the ‘law makers’ follow the same rules of any other organization in this country and have immediate and mandatory HR sexual harassment prevention training. No more do as I say and not as I do.
This year we have the perverted thugs in the church hierarchy came out in favor of the perverted thug in the White House. I have also been an ex Republican since Santorum’s recorded message personally called me to threaten me to vote for him right after 9 11. He sounded like a mafia enforcer. Vote for me or you WILL be bombed by a terrorist. It is the hall mark of a dictator to install fear of the outsider in their populations.
This It will be the only year I will deliberately vote a straight Democratic ticket without even bothering to look into the detail of the individual candidates. My husband, in Trump’s sweet demographic of older men from the coal country has deliberately registered to vote for Hillary this year. It will be his first time voting ever. I have also instructed my daughter to make sure she registers to vote for Hillary.
The final straw was my local priest handing out the Catholic League article that women who dress provocatively deserve to be raped and that the Catholic League is the epitome of Catholic truth and wisdom. Mr. Donahue makes Trump look like a fountain of truth and rational thought. If he had been alive at the time of Christ neither the Virgin Mary nor the forgiven adulteress would have lived. I am waiting for Cardinal Dolan’s homily on how rape, torture, murder, xenophobia (The Roman Catholic Church is Worldwide for God’s sake! The bishops are walling off portions of the family!) etc. show respect for life. Also agreed to on the Women’s March bus – the pro-lifers are only pro-birthers. Once the baby is born, it can starve to death.
So – I am fed up. I no longer see any evidence of the presence of God in the Catholic Church. I was the last member of my family still attending church. You stay with Benne Dick’s elect of the church, the pedophiles, the penis worshippers, the sub standard Latin scholars, and the functionally illiterate and I will acknowledge I am part of the80% of the faithful; walled out where it is safe. I have never seen an organization work so hard to achieve the theological, religious and moral credibility of child pornographers. . Leaving will give me at least 6 hours more a week in which to write these letters and to pray for the conversion of the vatican from paganism to Christianity. It is going to take me close to a year to disentangle my life from all my Church functions.) I feel like the little boy crying out that the Emperor has no clothes!
Now where did I put my credit card to make a donation to Hillary and Planned Parenthood? Also a first, I never donate to political campaigns or to PP before now. You all convinced me otherwise. I hope you had fun at your big party in Washington.
