Tamara Shealey‘s weekly program featured several people discussing the border wall and immigrants. One of the people on the panel was a Trump supporting Republican. The discussion was very cordial and civil, unlike most discussions where Trumpists are involved. I would wager that there is a distinct probability that we gave him food for thought from a perspective he never heard.
Panel: Immigrants & Border Wall
The entire segment is 25 minutes and worth a watch, but I cut out two parts here & here. Please follow me on Instagram to get full access to the Politics Done Right IGTV channel where its populated with dozens of clips.
Robby Caban made some critical points as she pointed out that this is the time for radical change. She pointed out the hypocrisy of companies hiring Latino immigrants while supporting a wall.
Greg Williams, a Trump supporter, attempted to put a positive facade on our draconian and immoral immigration system. But he made a statement that needed some pushback to point out the hypocrisy of his position. “It is not my job to determine their legal status,” Greg said. And that is the issue.
I explained that the hypocrisy and immorality in that reality are that private companies hire undocumented workers at lower wages for huge gains. Private corporations house and feed the workers caught by ICE for profit, and the cycle continues just benefiting the employer, the plutocrat. The immigrants simply become the raw material they play with continually.
But I wanted to make a significant point. Any country with a history like ours does not have the moral authority to declare anyone illegal. Yes, we can have well-protected borders so we can control our country for security reasons. But it would behoove us to remember that the original settlers, the first immigrants, came here, killed en masse and conquered this land. The new immigrants only want a job. That a few commit crimes are an aberration. But in context, the crime rate among immigrants is less than that of U.S. citizens.
