Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO) Slams Medicare for All with Right Wing Talking Points

March 29, 2019 By Egberto Willies

Sorry, there was a YouTube error.

Senator Michael Bennet appeared on Morning Joe. When asked the usual question for that platform, “Do you support Medicare for All,” he was ready with an answer. NO. And then he shamefully used Right Wing talking points to disparage it.

Watch the entire episode here.

It is clear that Bennet’s answers were well rehearsed. He did not hesitate to answer the question as did John Hickenlooper who made a fool of himself as he got the answer to “are you a Capitalist?” wrong before he stumbled into a mostly right answer.

So which Right Wing Talking points did Bennet use against Medicare for All?

  • It would take insurance away from 180 million Americans: FALSE – Everyone would be insured and in the aggregate, it would be better insurance since there would be no deductibles, co-pays, etc.
  • It would take insurance away from every labor union in America. FALSE – Same as above.
  • It would cost 30 trillion dollars. MISLEADING – While taxes will go up, premiums, copays, and deductibles go away ensuring that most who pay insurance today will have more income in their pockets.
  • It is a government takeover of healthcare: FALSE – Hospitals, doctors, drug makers all remain in the private and non-profit sectors. This is the most egregious statement because it is the most polarizing. And making that association as a Democrat increases the weaponized payload from Republicans.

Michael Benet should no better. In fact, it is clear he is smart so he does know better. He could have said he does not support Medicare for All but supports improving Obamacare. If they followed up with why he could have said that the transition would be difficult and may be lengthy and Americans need relief now. Instead, he chose words to damage Medicare for All.

Michael Bennet will not be the Democratic nominee for president. But he has ensured that his Right Wing talking points will be used against the winner.

This was very poor judgement on Benet’s part. In order to strengthen his campaign I feel he negatively attacks his opposition to other candidates plans rather then sticking to how his particular plan would be more effective. I felt he had this type of behavior in all the interviews he’s given. Would never vote for him in the primary for that reason and he’s too old school not in age but feeling too comfortable with the status quo.
