An Ethiopian immigrant who is a truck driver/owner called into Politics Done Right. He was complaining that I was too utopian in my belief that we should have an egalitarian society. While the conversation started calmly, it progressively deteriorated as he seemed unable to maintain the tone we try to maintain on our program.
The caller took exception to me using slave analogy with corporations. He purposefully refused to acknowledge the nuance. It is clear that this Ethiopian immigrant was using many of the standard arguments from Fox News and talk radio. That is not hard to imagine given the number of hours he spends in his cab on the open road listening to the radio. In fact, he seemed to have called into the show from the road.
Has Fox News gotten to this Ethiopian
Speaking to guys like this illustrated the difficult road for Progressives ahead. He made a very important point that I had to acknowledge. Things in this country may not be unbearable enough to elicit a revolt capable of making drastic changes to our economic system. My contention, however, is that if we can inform in such a manner that citizens see that we are on a path of demise, they will start seeking preventative medicine, a modified economy.
