Democratic Presidential Candidate Senator Kamala Harris comes out strong for Medicare for All because …

May 30, 2019 By Egberto Willies

Senator Kamala Harris is not a favorite of the Left. Her criminal justice record leaves much to be desired. The positive statements she is now making, and her empathetic reasoning and support for Medicare for All dictate that I give her a second look.

While we should not be single-issue voters, Medicare for All is one of those all-encompassing issues that has to be a major litmus test. For Progressives, it must be the first delineation to enter the group of acceptable contenders.

One cannot know what is in the heart of any politician. We know them by their deeds and their potential influence and ability to do the job.

Kamala Harris’ construction of her answer to the woman who has colon cancer but no insurance touched me not only on an emotional level but on an intellectual level. If she means what she said, both are satisfied. Otherwise, we have her words as a weapon.

Many will balk at strong Progressives who are considering supporting Harris. They should not. We must remember that our politicians are but vessels to attain the goals we want to ensure the type of egalitarian society we are aiming for continually.

This Progressive has Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and Kamala Harris as the three candidates of choice. Suffice it to say candidates like Michael Bennet should lose complete support from Progressives after using Right Wing misleading talking points against Medicare for All.

I still have a few months to listen to debates, study, and evaluate these candidates and others. I will use every minute of that time to do so.
