Joy-Ann Reid calls out Democrats for running a losing timid campaign.

Joy-Ann Reid called out Democrats for being timid in campaigning. She points out that many are running scared in the manner that they describe the progressive policies Democrats stand for.

Reid first tackled the issue of Trump’s racism. She replayed a commentary from Tim Wise who pointed out that Trump’s racism must not be ignored. In fact, he said Democrats must handle it in the same manner they did when David Duke ran in Lousiana. It must be in your face and intentional.

Joy-Ann Reid expresses concern on the narrative of Democrats

Joy-Ann Reid then segued into Democrats timidity to make the Progressive case. She did not have to look too far. Wendy Davis earlier appeared on her show and was intentional about not saying anything very Progressive. This from the woman who with her filibuster forced the Texas State Legislature to adjourn without passing an abortion bill.

Democratic Strategist Cornell Belcher made some prescient points.

  • Concentrating on the Obama voter who voted for Trump is not all that important. After-all, many Romney voters likely voted for Hillary in 2016.
  • Democrats should be going after the seven million Obama voters who stayed home.
  • During the 2004 election, a vote for Kerry was a vote against Bush. During the 2008 election, an Obama vote was an Obama vote.
  • If Democrats are to win, they will have to give Americans a different vision to vote for as opposed to going back in time to some mythical center.

Democrats better hurry and get their act together. Take on Trump racism directly and pivot to how we will give Americans the policies they want, Progressive policies. If they give every American a compelling reason to get out of their homes and work and invest a few minutes to vote, then they will be rewarded with a resounding win.

I saw the tail end of this segment. I agree with Belcher. And I was interested to find out more from Weigel about Midwest Democrats starting voter registration drives. We need “better” voters – disaffected voters who have dropped out of voting. It would be easier to get them to vote for Democrats than trying to convince older white male voters who have already moved to the Republican column.

Are you going to post this at Daily Kos? They need to hear about this.
