This morning we received some disturbing health news about Bernie Sanders. As the morning went on one should feel positive that our Progressive hero will be alright and ready to jump back into the campaign.

We received the following from the Bernie Sanders campaign.

LAS VEGAS – Sen. Bernie Sanders’ Senior Advisor Jeff Weaver on Wednesday issued the following statement:

“During a campaign event yesterday evening, Sen. Sanders experienced some chest discomfort. Following medical evaluation and testing he was found to have a blockage in one artery and two stents were successfully inserted. Sen. Sanders is conversing and in good spirits. He will be resting up over the next few days. We are canceling his events and appearances until further notice, and we will continue to provide appropriate updates.”

The Washington Post reported the following.

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders underwent a heart procedure after experiencing chest discomfort at an event, a campaign official said Wednesday, prompting him to cancel his upcoming schedule as he recovers.

“During a campaign event yesterday evening, Sen. Sanders experienced some chest discomfort,” Sanders senior adviser Jeff Weaver said in a written statement. “Following medical evaluation and testing he was found to have a blockage in one artery and two stents were successfully inserted.”

Weaver said that Sanders “is conversing and in good spirits.” The 78-year-old Vermont independent “will be resting up over the next few days,” according to Weaver. He added, “We are canceling his events and appearances until further notice, and we will continue to provide appropriate updates.”

The New York Times reports the following which makes it clear Bernie Sanders will return with a vengeance and energy.

One campaign aide, referring to Mr. Sanders, told The New York Times on Wednesday morning: “He feels better than ever because that’s how people feel after they get a stent and there’s more blood flow.”

Mr. Sanders has kept up a brutal schedule on the campaign trail, typically holding multiple events in several cities a day. Over the weekend, he held several events at colleges in New Hampshire. Following his trips this week to Nevada and California, he had been expected to travel to Iowa this weekend, according to a campaign aide.

So don’t count our Progressive hero out. He will be back and campaigning soon.
