Corporate Media using Labour Party defeat to smear progressives.

December 13, 2019 By Egberto Willies

Sorry, there was a YouTube error.

The corporate media is attempting to make UK’s Labour Party & Jeremy Corbyn’s defeat as the future of the American Progressive movement. Don’t buy it.

I knew it was coming though it came quicker with a larger ferocity than I thought it would. Is UK’s Labour Party fate that of the Progressive Wing of the Democratic Party?

Did you hear the corporate media talking about the center moving to the left when Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador won in Mexico? Note you do not hear much about him because his policies make most Mexicans outside of DF pretty darn happy.

What is sad is when a Democratic Presidential candidate begins toeing the same line. But it should be no surprise that our perennial neoliberal centrist would chime in.

Former Vice President Joe Biden Thursday night told a gathering of rich donors that the Labour Party’s crushing defeat in the U.K. general election represents a warning sign that Democrats should not nominate a left-wing candidate in 2020, a narrative progressives immediately condemned as highly misleading and pernicious.

“Look what happens when the Labour Party moves so, so far to the left,” Biden, a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, told donors at a fundraiser in San Francisco Thursday. “It comes up with ideas that are not able to be contained within a rational basis quickly.”

“You’re also going to see people saying, ‘My God, [U.K. Prime Minister] Boris Johnson, who is kind of a physical and emotional clone of the president, is able to win,” the former vice president said, according to pool reports.

Biden’s remarks mirrored the immediate post-election reaction of centrist pundits on Twitter late Thursday as exit poll results made clear that Labour, led by Jeremy Corbyn, lost decisively.

The situation is not the same though the corporate mainstream media will attempt to make it so. It is important that Progressive stay the course. Instead of spending any time on the defensive articulate the policies we intend to put into effect and how we intend to do it in a realistic manner.

Perhaps a “centrist” position that Democrats could support is improving the Affordable Care Act enough to make healthcare affordable to everyone. “Medicare for All” is a more disruptive plan that is an attempt to go to a completely different healthcare system where all private health insurance is banned. It must be pointed out that the U.K. does NOT ban private health insurance, unlike the “Medicare for All” proposal. Even Sweden doesn’t ban private health insurance. In both countries, about 10% of the population uses private health insurance, which in many cases persons get from their employers. But most of the “centrist” Democrats like Biden, Klobuchar and Buttigieg support a public option for those who don’t like their private insurance.

But you don’t explain why the situations are different. I don’t think Biden is too far off the mark. We are a Center-Left Country, some would argue Center Right, but either way, the Country as a whole, does not support either Far Left or Far Right ideologies and policies.
If Joe Biden is a “perennial Neoliberal Centrist”…PLEASE give me a neoliberal Centrist 24/7/365 all day long, every day of the week, over Donald Trump.
It kills me how the Left just can’t seem to help themselves when it comes to the circular firing squad!
JOE BIDEN WOULD MAKE A GOOD PRESIDENT!
Build YOUR candidate of choice UP…dont TEAR DOWN OTHER DEMS TO DO IT! We are all opposed to Trump, right!? We need him gone Jan 22nd, 2021, right? The Left and anyone opposed to Trump, better get the Memo and BETTER start acting like it, or we will be handing Trump his 2nd term!
