It is clear to Professor Eddie Glaude and many that Donald Trump’s assassination of Iranian Major General Qassem Soleimani was narcissism and was not thought through. It now has all Americans in danger.
Dr. Eddie Glaude: Assassination because of Trump’s narcissism
When Americans travel, terrorists do not check whether they are Democrats or Republicans, Liberals or Conservatives. They just kill Americans. For the sake of getting one contained killer, Donald Trump will likely have caused the deaths of scores if not hundreds of Americans.
Too often, American Presidents fail to understand that getting the leader you perceive to be bad is not worth the pre or post carnage. When Bush invaded Panama to get Noriega, several thousand civilian Panamanians were killed to arrest him. I still consider that a war crime. But the head of state was brought to America alive.
Sadly that was not the case with Soleimani. Trump has set the precedent now that leaders of states can be targets. And the United States of America struck first. That many Americans fail to see this allows our warmongering leaders to keep the defense industrial complex funded.
If you give an immature child full command of the military of the United States, that child is likely to use it. Taunt the child, they are likely to use it quicker irrespective of impact. It seems Iranian Major General Qassem Soleimani once taunted our child president.
The Iranian general who was torn to shreds by an American airstrike once taunted the president, calling him a “gambler” with the style of a “bartender or casino manager.”
“Come, we are waiting for you. We are the real men on the scene, as far as you are concerned. You know that a war would mean the loss of all your capabilities. You may start the war, but we will be the ones to determine its end,” Qassem Soleimani said in a fiery July 2018 speech directed at Trump.
Eighteen months later, his death wish was granted when he was killed Friday … In the 2018 speech, Soleimani was responding to a Twitter post by Trump, warning Iranian President Hassan Rouhani against threatening the US.
“Never, ever threaten the United States again or you will suffer consequences the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before. We are no longer a country that will stand for your demented words of violence & death. Be cautious!” Trump tweeted.
The typically soft-spoken Soleimani was so angered by Trump’s declaration, he raised his voice to a bellow during the address at a military base in Hamdan, video of the speech published by the Daily Mail shows.
“Mr. Trump, the gambler! You are well aware of our power and capabilities in the region,” Soleimani yelled, pointing toward the camera. “It has been over a year since Trump became US president, but that man’s rhetoric is still that of a casino, of a bar.” … “It was an act of war on the part of the United States against the Iranian people, Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations Majid Takht Ravanchi said in a CNN interview Friday.
A second Trump term would be more dangerous because there would be nothing to restrain him. He will not have to keep Evangelicals at bay nor White Supremacists. He can be as transactional as necessary to serve Trump.

My, there sure are a lot of people pulling their hair out over the killing of the Iranian terrorist general Qassem Suleimani. Where were they the past few years when Suleimani was slaughtering half a million Syrians? Quds dude got what he deserved. The world is a better place without genocidal pigs like this. Did you know that Bashar al Assad of Syria was using general Suleimani and Iranian troops as his ground army, just as he was using Putin’s Russia as an air force? Do you understand they flattened Syria and murdered 500,000 Syrians? If you don’t like war you should be glad that this general was killed because he was a major warmonger. Body count wise he was a worse terrorist than Bin laden or Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi combined.
You don’t want a war? Good. No one else does either. The US and Iran are not going to war. They already did that in the 1980’s using Saddam Hussein as a proxy in a 10-year war that ended in stalemate. All this before Iran spent thirty years and billions of dollars hardening its defenses. Now every strategic point in Iran is bunkered and Iran is armed to the teeth to repel any invasion. But they are not an offensive threat to the US. They have no weapons that could even dent the US outside of Iran. If Iran actually acuired any formidable projectiles or WMDs they would be nuked by Israel. So, it is still a stalemate. The US and Iran are not going to war because neither side has a chance of winning.
The Iranian government needs to be flipped by the Iranian people. No one else can do it. The biggest threat to the Iranian government is the Iranian people. More than half of Iranians would flush the Islamic Republic down a toilet if they could. I hope they can find a way to put their fascist government in a very small box at the bottom of the sea. The job of liberating Iran is for Iranians.
Iran’s biggest threat to the world is closing the Straight of Hormuz to oil tankers by sinking some old rusting hulks of retired tanker ships. I hope they do. It will screw the fascist Gulf oil dictatorships the most and raise oil prices, and therefor encourage electric cars. All the Texas oil producers would cream their pants for higher per-barrel oil prices. Win-Win.
The USA needs to own all the troubles in this region of the world since 1953 when we destroyed the first democracy the Muslim world hade ever known, and set the stage for every disaster hence by propping up brutal dictatorships that wiped out all capacity for civil society at every turn. US imperial ambitions are the sorcerer’s apprentice here. Everything the US does just makes everything worse. But the USA is not the only imperial power on this game board. I hope that people can start to see through the imperial ambitions of Iran. They want a clear path to the Mediterranean via Iraq and Syria. They don’t seem to mind killing anyone that stands in their way. If they were not such assholes they could achieve this goal diplomatically with a few trade agreements. If the USA, Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Turkey were run by smart people instead of total assholes then they could negotiate a territorial swap giving Iran highway access to the Mediterranean ports of Syria and the transfer of the Shia areas of Iraq to Iran in an exchange for the consolidation of all traditional Kurdish areas in Iran into the Kurdish free state of Rojava.
Alas:

I know the guy is evil. I do not disagree with most of your prose.
As a guy from a country invaded by the USA I can tell you that as Americans we need to not think it is OK to do what we would not allow. Thousands of Panamanians died because the U.S. who was happy with Noriega’s facilitation of drugs and more denied them once.
Let me give an example with a question. Who is the only country we know would use the nuclear bomb against civilians because they have?
We are concerned about all these countries around the world getting the nuclear bomb. Here is the truth. Many countries you least expect probably have one.
We must remember that people around the world are clear eyed. Soleimani is a killer. But like Trump said, we kill too. We should all stop but it will not be unidirectional.

I am not arguing from a US perspective. As an anarchist I don’t have a national identity. If this guy was struck by lightning I would be dancing in the street simply from a justice perspective. Trump was the lightning bolt. It could have been a slip on a banana peel. Broke clocks, yadayada. This guy and Hitler, flip a coin. Death to dictators and tyrants, and their generals. The big point here is pointing out how ignorant all the pundits are that are saying this will lead to war. Score one for just deserts.

I read you brother. But I would prefer the lightning than to endanger the average American vacationing who is now a bigger target for revenge.

Safe vacations are important. We should ask ourselves, what would Nevile Chamberlain do? I am crossing Damascus Disneyland off.

The difficult decision ahead for all Iraqi people is terrible. Their only choice is in who will be their occupying force. Iranians are already digging in at certain strategic spots from their border to the coast of Syria. If the US leaves then Iraq will be overrun by Iran and Iran becomes the next door neighbor of Israel. If the US stays then the current status quo continues to stink up the place. Which option is less painful for Iraqis? Being a battleground between Israel and Iran, or having the USA up their butt?
