Thom Hartmann: Beware of Democratic Super Delegates stealing 2020. Solution?

January 27, 2020 By Egberto Willies

Thom Hartmann appeared on Politics Done Right with a prescient message to progressives about how Democratic Super Delegates are likely to try to steal 2020 primary away from Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren.

Thom Hartmann warns about Democratic Super Delegates

There are a lot of machinations, smoke & mirror misdirections, and more occurring with the expectation of influencing the Democratic Primary. It is my contention that the polls are not reflecting the impossibility of Donald Trump’s election except by massive fraud and voter suppression.

Being on the ground I see a different electorate that what many of the crosstabs in these polls would suggest. The appropriate message is likely to have more impact on the younger Gen Xes, millennials, and younger because they are feeling the pinch of policies by Republicans and Centrists alike. While these politicians frame the wants of the masses as people wanting giveaways, they fail to articulate the reality that the giveaways and as such the ability to create wealth has gone to the wealthy and the chosen since Ronald Reagan. No subsequent Democratic President has been willing to challenge the tenet of satisfying the wealthy first with expectations of some false trickle down. The evidence is in the outcomes that have taken many or have had many on the path to destitution.

The mainstream media’s support for Joe Biden was the Plutocracy’s first line of defense. It has been clear to most that Biden is a corporate candidate first. But as he has proven serious weaknesses not only for his inept delivery but for his votes and actions easily equated to Trump to the willfully ignorant, it makes a victory or one with coattails unlikely. And hence the mainstream has been hedging with Klobuchar as did the New York Times with a wish that somehow Mike Bloomberg finds a way to emerge.

None of these tricks will work in the long run as people get serious about an election that matters. I really believe the elite in both of our major parties either are ignorant of the real state of the masses or are simply unconcerned. Either reality negates the right of any of their preferred candidates to govern.

Thom Hartmann laid out the problem progressives could face if we had to get to a second ballot at the Democratic Convention if one of the progressive candidates do not get the outright delegate count. And it is the Super Delegate issue of years past. But he lays out the progressive compromise that could mitigate a stolen primary. For this reason, we must not create unnecessary animosity between progressive candidates. Our voters must be ready to converge quickly.
