Must Watch: John Oliver destroys arguments from Medicare for All opponents.

February 17, 2020 By Egberto Willies

Sorry, there was a YouTube error.

Medicare for All is the only solution for America’s health care. Period. Those who oppose its tenets either do not understand it or lack the empathy necessary to care about the health and humanity of many.

What John Oliver does in the video in this post is to point out the false narratives and explains how inhumane our current system is.

John Oliver on Medicare for All

In mocking a Right Winger who claimed that America has the best health care system in the world and that rich people from around the world come here, John Oliver had a great statement.

“Look, I will give that man this,” John Oliver said. “America does have one of the best healthcare systems in the world for rich famous people. Unfortunately, too many people are born in this country with a terrible preexisting condition called NOT BEING BEYONCE.”

Reading the notes under Oliver’s video was eye-opening.

Karel Liinaharja: As a Finnish doctor I am astounded that people in US haven’t risen to the barricades already. We have free healthcare and a cap on medicine costs (government pays after 700 $ every year). This does not mean we are socialists, we live in a very much capitalist, western country. Only areas which are government controlled are healthcare and education (free tuition all through kindergarten to uni); this ensures equal possibilities and social migration between ”classes”. TL;DR: WE ARE NOT COMMUNISTS, DON’T BELIEVE THE PROPAGANDA.

Marco Meijer: It’s interesting how the US is the only “developed” country that can’t afford universal healthcare. Especially given how they can afford their current system, which costs 2.5 times the OECD average per capita. Americans pay more taxes than many western European countries pay in taxes and private costs combined. America’s private costs just double this taxation. But somehow, the US can’t afford to actually be a developed country…

Marc Emson: When a goverment rather waste money on a worthless wall rather than the healthcare and wellbeing of its people, you know something is seriously wrong with that goverment…

Wraith of War: My friends mother died of cancer, she didn’t know she had it because she was always afraid of going to the doctor because she didn’t have insurance or much money. America needs to catch up with the rest of the modern world.

Rourke Buechel: I’ve lived with private healthcare, and healthcare through the military (Tricare) and now I live in Australia and have had the great privilege of using socialized health care. It’s soooo much better! Better doctors, faster diagnosis, cheaper meds, all around amazing. Ignore the scare tactics. The healthcare system is going to lobby like hell to keep the system the way it is, after all, it’s made them wealthy beyond comprehension. But make no mistake, universal healthcare is badly needed in America. I’m afraid to live in the states again almost entirely because of how much going to the doctor for anything costs.

It is amazing how many people travel, understand the scourge that is our healthcare system for most, and stay abroad. Check out my recent interview with an expatriate now living in Norway. The degeneracy of our healthcare system has him lost for words.

It is time for us to stand up to the plutocrats who do not have our well-being at hand but instead the best way to extract the last dollar out of us to enrich the few. Medicare for All is what we should all be striving for now.
