While perusing my feed on Facebook I ran across a post that upset me to the core on COVID-19. This is how I handled it, to positive reviews.
The kind woman went expressed her own experience and fear when her 14-year-old had to go in for COVID-19 testing because the kid was exposed to someone who tested positive. She went on to point out that COVID-19 exposure was surging in the area.
The sickening thing is that while the woman’s entire post was informative, factual, and helpful, she thought she had to preface the post with the following disclaimer.
Just passing on info that I would want to know. Not looking to argue or debate. Take it or leave it. Be safe.
The group likely reflects this community which is very Right-Wing. I did not care however because this is life and death. I felt compelled to add the following comment.
It is a national shame that you must preface giving valuable information in a community that is purportedly intelligent given its socioeconomic strata and demonstrably undeserved privilege with the phrase:
“Just passing on info that I would want to know. Not looking to argue or debate. Take it or leave it. Be safe!”
Thank you for being selfless, nonetheless. I do the same but it is difficult and frustrating knowing the facts, reality, and the reason for the misinformation to continue informing with all those who allow ideology to have them willfully hoodwinked.
If their behavior was relegated to themselves, one could leave it up to natural selection. The problem, as we all know, is the virus moves in one direction irrespective of one’s ideology or desire to be willfully ignorant.
So as their behavior inadvertently causes the virus to encroach the spaces of others, they cause harm to all.
COVID-19 is not just like the flu. I have relatives young and old recovering. The damage that this virus does even to the recovered is long lasting from kidney damage to lung damage to brain damage. My 48-year-old cousin had all three. And he is athletic, muscular, and without any preexisting conditions. He has three now. He is a New York Detective so he has good insurance but most Americans don’t.
And BTW, even those that are asymptomatic develop organ damage that they may not find out about until later. A novel virus puts immune systems into unknown states and that is why outcomes are so erratic. The one thing that is known is things will never be the same again.
I just wish more would do the humane thing and learn how their behavior is affecting humans in the U.S. No other country in the world, “third world” or otherwise, has succumbed to the thinking of some like our governor that is now responsible for the deaths of many Texans. Brazil, Russia, U.S, Interesting bed partners with comparable leaders. November 2020 is going to be existential. It is wonderful that many are waking up. [VENT OVER]
I was pleasantly surprised to get a lot of love for the comment. To the followers of the pathetically and morally depraved leaders on the Right, silence is tantamount to telling them they are correct in their actions. They then internalize it and make it real to their sect.
We cannot allow the metastasis of intellectual fraud. We must speak up at every turn.

To counter that, there’s a video going around of a woman coming into Whole-paycheck Foods, the cashier released a statement to counter the video.
The customer is being trespassed from the premises while without a mask, proclaiming loudly enough that my moderate to sever hearing loss ears rang from my tiny laptop speakers, that she has a breathing problem, blather, rights, blather, blather, more blather.
The cashier mentioned, she entered the store wearing a mask, then removed it once inside. She then accosted customers on various aisles, getting close to them, coughing at them and generally proving to the universe she wasn’t exceptionally worthy of additional oxygen.
Then, the manager finally intercepted her and at social distancing range (unlike with the customers, who she got nearly hug distance close), ranted at high enough volume as to entirely disprove any respiratory malady on the planet. And that’s said as a man whose wife has asthma and I was hospitalized for respiratory distress, secondary to a constellation that basically meant congestive heart failure, due to insanely high pulse rate lowering pumping ability, epic hypertension enough to require hospitalization, partially collapsed lungs, mild pneumonia and the cause, my immune system attacked my thyroid, the thyroid retaliated (OK, not really, the antibodies attacked the TSH receptors, turning them on) and the thyroid was winning.
Another wunderkind decided it’d be cool to approach a mother and baby in a stroller, remove her mask, then cough on the infant. The mother and infant were, of course, brown.
In both instances, either one would’ve been the very first woman I’ve struck with malice in nearly six decades of life and the strike would be with intent to cause at least a jaw fracture.
My pulse was racing watching the video, I could even hear my own heartbeat, despite a high dosage of beta blockers that block adrenaline!
Given the number of glares I have been getting going to the gas station/convenience store across the street with a mask on, if some chucklehead charges me without a mask, he’ll get a sizable bayonet drill conducted using my cane as an initiation to what I did in the US Army and on percussive counseling.
But, I far prefer peace and quiet, but I am indeed a lapsed pacifist.
Annoyingly, I have to go to the supermarket and to judge by the quickiemart across the way, mask usage is at an all time low in south-central Pennsylvania.
The difference between some tough on the street is, I’ve never stuck around to take credit when some miscreant forced me to wreck his weekend plans for a few months.
After all, we were trained to egress after contact and cessation of hostilities.
And I’m above and beyond the call of pissed off that that side of me has to be awakened out of happy retirement. But, should I or my wife get this virus, we’re toast, so anyone playing games is a life threat and when one has a hammer, every threat is a tiny nail to get bent.

I would take it ONE step further. Instead of “shaming and blaming” back and forth, which furthers the politicizing that distracts from medical science as the focus. Why not acknowledge how much the liberal left has done this with abortion politics? Which the SAME PROLIFE advocates have struggled with, to focus on the science of REAL preventative health care “while the left seems to DOWNPLAY the seriousness of abortion.” BOTH sides of the spectrum are AGHAST at the “lack of conscience” by the other side. This presents a GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY to ENCOURAGE both prolife and prochoice on left and right to COME TOGETHER, AND AGREE ON PREVENTION in BOTH cases. If we are going to ask PROLIFE people to stop the fear of politicizing and focus on prevention, Why not offer to do the same with Abortion? So far, I’ve had at least 1-2 friends on both sides AGREE that with this approach, they might be willing to work on solutions. That isn’t about PUSHING more Blame and Shame Politics, to further the divide. It’s about RECOGNIZING that political biases are MUTUAL. And if we want to change something, we can start with our side of the same fence!!!
