Joy-Ann Reid was visibly upset after the naturalization ceremony held in the White House during the Republican National Convention. Her statement said it all.
Joy-Ann Reid gets real
President Trump used the White House, the People’s House for personal political purposes. I am sure to most, it seemed like a huge facade designed to cover his incompetence and dereliction of duty.
Joy-Ann Reid said it is offensive and wrong for the president and his minions to have used the White House politically. She said even worse was the naturalization ceremony. She said it stuck out to her. Why?
Reid pointed out that her mother did that ceremony as she was a naturalized citizen from Guyana. The ceremony has a lot of meaning to the naturalized citizen. But instead Donald Trump, she said, made the ceremony about him.
Reid went on to say that Donald Trump is denying naturalization to many applicants. Yet, the president has no problem giving these applicants citizenship in order to use them as props.
Worse, Reid said, the president used people from countries he has referred to as shithole countries, people of many colors, for political gain. Her disgust was palpable and justified.

My father had his flaws, we all have our flaws. He used to joke, when Obama first took office and before dementia claimed who he was, that the White House was then the Black House and was happy about that fact. Most of his peers and former coworkers were black and quite a few ate dinner at our kitchen table with us, as honored guests – even when it was dangerous to do so, during the civil rights era.
Trump has been whitewashing the White House and doing everything he can to undo everything Obama succeeded in doing, environmentally, legally, civil rights wise and trying to turn the clock back to the mid-1800’s.
Trump isn’t exceptionally bright, but he’s astonishingly devious, a natural con man. That’s my diagnosis, from an old TV repairman, who collected his fair share of money from used car salesmen. 😉
Along with a few other careers, one of which was military. There, I learned the hard way, already knowing, that we all bleed the same fucking color.
And don’t sanitize the ugly and say s-hole, use the ugly, as words are weapons and when you sanitize the ugly, you neutralize the ugly. An ugly that needs the full exposure of daylight. It won’t go away as long as it’s sanitized and rendered neutered, all while remaining a threat to one and all.
Hence, needs exposure, so that sunlight can purge the ugliness and allow an ill healed scar to properly heal, without additional infection.
In my own personal name, I have an avatar showing my actual face, wearing a shemagh, snapped by my wife during a Skype call home during a rather nasty sandstorm. Honestly, it has fond memories attached and is a lot of race baiting. Something laughable, as my parents were born in South Philly and I’m pure Sicilian – American stock, which does carry some genetic baggage.
And I’ve gotten more than my fair share of “go back to your own country” bullshit and well, then my finest South Philly accented online speech kicks in, sounding rather a lot like the fictional Rocky. That always ends with hilarity for the online audience and of course, the speaker losing all standing whatsoever, especially when I begin to list military decorations.
In person, I am pretty much the same, suffering fools poorly. A mask objecting freedumb fool, trying to fight to not wear the legally mandated mask in my presence would fare poorly, any attempting to kill me by removing my mask would find out that Batman is nicer than me within that context.
Basically, for most, I’m an outside context problem. The battleship in the bay in one’s canoe based society.

Because, what we want most is peace and quiet, not the peace and quiet after someone is gunned down, not the peace and quiet after a peaceful protest is tear gassed.
Those, I’m especially tempted to join, as CS has precisely zero effect on me, beyond irritating a hyperthyroid patient. I’d be the SOB happily enjoying a cigarette in the middle of the cloud, right next to its grenade. Modeling things, that’d be a challenge to police, who are required to “dominate”, who then get to learn that my cane is a walking assistant, it’s also a very formidable weapon, I had the same training that they went through on staff weapons.
Escalation only makes things worse, all around. If it turns into a “war”, wars aren’t won or lost by how many are harmed or what is destroyed, they’re won by the idea that continuing destroys all that your society holds dear. They always were based upon that. Remember that military career?
I’m a PR nightmare from hell, in actual conflict, well, some claimed that the devil himself worked for me.
That bad side, well, that isn’t all that far from.
Personally, as I’ve repeatedly said, my wife and I far prefer peace and quiet, but not the failed status quo. Things need to get fixed.
