Steve Schmidt may be serious about teaming up with AOC to prevent a second Trump-like coup attempt. Should she engage?
Steve Schmidt wants AOC to help save America
Knowingly or not, brother Steve Schmidt and many of his Lincoln Project cohort are partially responsible for what the Republican Party has become. I think it is imperative that he acknowledges that.
Firstly, it all starts with consequential lies that are not refuted from within. The alliance with the Moral Majority and other Evangelicals had little to do with Conservative fiscal policies. It was always a power play where they could not be fulfilled because most Americans do not believe in their movement’s patriarchal, female-body-control nature.
Secondly, the 2nd Amendment alliance at all costs has given us an armed group of infantile men who see their power in waving weapons. The GOP created folks they would ultimately lose control of as they started smelling power that was just the figment of their imagination.
And lastly, the support of or the manufacture of lies that was detrimental not only to the opposition’s policies but also dehumanized them. That continues at exponential levels.
If AOC is to team up, some sort of atonement is necessary. After all, Donald Trump, his sycophants, and enablers reflect what rank and file Republicans created. It is just a nuclear reaction where the control rods eventually eroded. It takes extraordinary measures to reverse a runaway nuclear reaction. We indeed dodged what could have been an autocratic turn. The seeds have been planted, and it will take a lot of work to stunt its growth.
