Progressives, and I am one, tend to talk in a manner that over the heads of many, not out of malice but comfort. It must stop.

Progressives need to message better

What is food insecurity? It does not sound like something that needs an immediate solution. Progressives must be more direct. People are hungry. They are starving. Kids are going to bed so hungry that their bellies hurt. That is much better understood by the moral “haves,” which paints a picture that can generate good policies.

Progressives have dozens of great policies that we have allowed others to define in their specific wrong but simplistic and easily understood language.

Americans want the policies that progressives are promoting. Why don’t the Appalachians, some of the neediest, vote for those proposing those policies? The answer is not simple. But it boils down to narrative—the narrative of the progressive policies and our basic social, racial, political, and economic structure.

In later blogs, I will attempt to go over many in detail. Suffice it to say, we have allowed the powers-that-be to define policies based on the country’s foundation’s principles, which were neither democratic nor egalitarian as if they are divine and immutable. Once we break that with simple language, we can morph into the egalitarian society we want.
