Crooked pastor sentenced to 6yrs in prison. What about the other megachurch crooks?

January 14, 2021 By Egberto Willies

This crooked pastor is just the tip of the iceberg. It would not surprise me if this is the modus operandi of a large percentage of pastors of these megachurches. They own their flock’s emotions, demotions, and many times indirectly, their income and capital.

Too often these guys are not your friends. They are parasites. They take and take in the foreground and background. They give back visibly a certain percentage and then they retire to their mansions, luxury cars, and luxury vacations.

Six years in prison is not enough. Now, go find all of the other crooked pastors out there. I have some ideas of where to start. Follow the money.

Kirbyjon Caldwell, Houston megachurch pastor and former spiritual adviser to two U.S. presidents, was sentenced on Wednesday to six years in federal prison for his role in a scheme that defrauded more than two dozen people out of millions of dollars through the sale of worthless Chinese bonds.

But it may be another year until the 67-year-old, who has prostate cancer, enters the prison system because of the threats posed to his health by COVID-19.

Caldwell was a spiritual adviser to presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. He grew Windsor Village United Methodist Church from roughly 25 members in the 1980s to more than 16,000 today — making it one of the country’s largest protestant congregations.
