Bill Maher was taken down by Tiffany Cross for his LantinX colorization monologue’s myopic view.

June 26, 2021 By Egberto Willies

Bill Maher made uninformed statements against the colorization critique of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s new film. Tiffany Cross would have none of it.

Tiffany Cross justifiably challenges Bill Maher

Bill Maher is a comedian. So why do we care what comes out of his mouth? We are a country where comedians and satirists often provide more correct context to narratives than the press which make themselves impotent to old journalistic standards that often no longer apply. Too many have figured out how to use old journalism training against themselves.

Bill Maher objected to those who called out Lin-Manuel Miranda for the lack of dark-skinned Afro-Latinos with any substantive parts.

“You are the guy who made the Founding Fathers Black and Hispanic,” said a dismissive Bill Maher. “I don’t think you have to apologize to Twitter. I mean, he is a Latino making a Latino movie with a Latino cast. Not good enough. Nothing is ever good enough for these people. They are like children.”

Tiffany Cross would have none of it. First, she commended Miranda for the graciousness with which he handled the critique expressing that he is learning and would do better. She pointed out the troglodyte that Bill Maher has become as he views things through the prism of the past.

Bill Maher should really attempt to learn about the issues within the LatinX community before he comments so myopically. As an Afro-Latino myself, watching the movie trailer alone made me uninterested in seeing the movie because it was like once again …

Listen to both the comments from Tiffany Cross and my gratuitous but substantive comment at the end.
