Eddie Glaude is disgusted with the lack of urgency Democrats are showing as the voting rights of many are placed in jeopardy.
Eddie Glaude hits the nail on the head again
Dr. Eddie Glaude pointed out that President Biden has said that he owes his election to the support from African Americans. He pointed out that it is expected that he must not tolerate the disenfranchisement of a voting sector that facilitated his election. As such, he must show more urgency including using the bully pulpit to demand and effect change.
Glaude went a bit further. He articulated an unfortunate truth that few know, realize, or want to accept. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema are acting as cover for other Democrats who do not want the filibuster eliminated because they do not support the “For The People Act.” Glaude said that the Democrats must at least create a carve-out to save our Democracy.
When asked what the President should do, Glaude was clear.
“I don’t want to tell him what to do,” Eddie Glaude said. “But I think he needs to do everything within his power to ensure that American Democracy is working. That it’s safe. We’re seeing a systematic attack on the very foundation of our democratic polity. I’m just baffled, Hallie, by how the democratic leadership is responding. They’re responding as if their opponents are rational political actors and their opponents are rigging the terms for not only the midterm election but for the subsequent presidential election. If the democrats don’t respond, if president Biden doesn’t respond aggressively, then we won’t see Raphael Warnock again in the Senate. We need to be very clear about the stakes here.”
It’s time to acknowledge the urgency. We must act now.
