Republican Senators Tommy Tuberville & Josh Hawley tried to embarrass Democrats with a #DefundThePolice stunt. Senators Cory Booker and Dick Durbin embarrassed them.
Democratic Senators threw #DefundThePolice right back at them
They tried it two times. And each time, it failed spectacularly. These Senators actually make Fox News’ Peter Doocy seem like a genius.
Alabama Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville thought he would embarrass Democrats. The problem is when Republicans start believing their misinformation and lies; they make these stupid moves. The Senator submitted a nonbinding amendment to eliminate funding to localities that defund the police.
Democratic Senator Cory Booker jumped on it. He thanked the Tuberville for giving all the opportunity to show that no one wants to defund the police as Republicans lie about. The bill passed 99 to 0. Booker pointed out that never again should the lie be used in an ad again.
Republican Senator Josh Hawley tried to up the ante after Tuberville’s failure. He offered an amendment to hire 100,000 new cops. Democratic Senator Dick Durbin embarrassed the demagogue. He reminded the body that in 1994 that is exactly what Joe Biden and 37 Democrats tried to get through the Senate. It was Joe Biden’s COPS HIRING PROGRAM. Not one Republican voted to support it. Durbin thanked him, a Republican, for coming around. The amendment passed overwhelmingly.
