General Barry McCaffrey did not pull any punches as he castigated supposedly competent ex-military officials who are advising extended stay in Afghanistan.
General Barry McCaffrey blast media generals
General Barry McCaffrey did not pull any punches. He is very disappointed in the coverage of Afghanistan.
"There's a legitimate debate about President Biden's decision to pull a plug on forces after he assumed office with an elective choice," General Barry McCaffrey said. " Right now, I am utterly appalled at so-called responsible people arguing with Biden's decision to leave by 31 August in accordance with apparently failed negotiations with the Taliban to extend it. One brigade on the ground, one runway surrounded by mountains, your air power is 1200 miles away, and you're 7,000 miles from home."
McCaffrey then tells the unfortunate truth.
"We do not want a shooting confrontation and withdrawal from Afghanistan," the general continued. "We're not going to get all the Americans out. We're not going to get all the sensitive Afghan people that cooperated with us. We're going to have to take other diplomatic means."
The general then excoriated politicians and the media.
"But anyway," McCaffrey said. "The bottom line is I'm looking at, you know, Congressman McCall and others thinking. What are you doing? Do you want a one brigade fight on the runway in Kabul airport? This is nuts!"
The media is doing a poor job in presenting the proper narrative for the U.S. pullout of Afghanistan. Once again it is like they are taking the Fox News lead.
