Tiffany Cross tells her health-scare story

I had a 3-hour KPFT 90.1 FM Houston programmers meeting this morning, so I could not watch my two favorite Saturday morning news stars, Tiffany Cross and Ali Velshi. I watched the Cross Connection immediately after the meeting. I hate watching taped programs because it generally means I am behind unless the programs I’m taping play the same time as another.

I was pleasantly surprised deep into her show when she said she had a personal medical story to tell. That immediately got my attention. After all, I am a Medicare for All advocate. All healthcare stories get my immediate attention. I must say, her story as she told it was much more riveting than I expected.

Her story, in a nutshell, was that even as she worked several jobs up to a year ago, she had no insurance. She needed surgery and thought she could use her savings until she found out it would cost tens of thousands of dollars. She got Obamacare just in time. Because Obamacare could not deny her for pre-existing conditions, she was able to have the surgery.

I wrote a blog post a few years ago when Obamacare, the Affordable Care Act, went into effect. Even though I always had insurance, I was reluctant to do too many tests for fear of establishing pre-existing conditions.

It is shameful that in America, one who needs healthcare must first think dollars before their health well-being.
