Joe Manchin really stepped in it with these words. One’s position is untenable when they must resort to a Republican talking point to justify their position.
Democrats should never use a Republican Talking Point
Every Democrat should entertain a good-faith debate on how best to fulfill the needs of all Americans. What differentiates Democrats from Republicans is who Democrats serve.
Senator Joe Manchin seems to have forgotten that today. He gave a reporter an answer flowered with the following unsolicited narrative, a Republican talking point.
“I know my work ethic,” Joe Manchin said. “I know the basics of where I came from. I know the people that I represent. And we are just concerned about the entitlement mentality vs. a rewarding mentality.”
That is complete hogwash. Republicans are famous for looking at the truth straight in the face and saying it isn’t so. The citizens of West Virginia do not know what it is to be entitled. As the 2nd poorest state in the nation, they get many “entitlements” from the government justifiably.
The valuing of rewards over entitlements in West Virginia is an oxymoron. One cannot compare something with another that is virtually nonexistent. If one lives in the 2nd poorest state in the country where people work very hard for very little, it is clear that they are still seeking the reward side of the equation.
Joe Manchin needs to tone it down, get off TV, and vote for both infrastructure bills. His constituents would reward him.
