When someone has good advice, it does not matter the source. Lucy Caldwell has some very sound advice. It is not about ideology but the vote. And if Progressives and Democrats are willing to think outside of the box, they will succeed.
The truth is that the Republican Party is a cult as described by Norm Ornstein. The thing is, sensible Republicans need somewhere to land. If an acceptable landing place is not provided they will revert to comfort and form even if means holding their nose. Understand what Caldwell is saying. It is not about converting these people into Democrats or Progressives. It’s about having them make an uncomfortable vote they can live with knowing their wound won’t be salted.
In these times we do not need to know one’s heart. We need to get one’s vote. And like Caldwell said, unlike too much of the Democratic base, these folks are activated to vote.
