The Biden administration’s “purchase of crack pipes” lie that started in the Right-Wing media is a distraction we should answer once and move on.
Crack pipes? No president of any party would be a party to that!
Joy-Ann Reid set the record straight in her way. She ridiculed anyone who would believe something so crazy.
“There is a bizarre and viral new lie ripping through the interwebs right now claiming that the Biden administration is supposedly spending 30 million of your tax dollars on crack pipes,” said Joy-Ann Reid. “Come on now. Joe Biden? This ‘Joe Biden’ dealing from 1600 PA. You all know that is absolutely not happening in all of America. Right? But before you could say The Shade Room, which later posted a correction, this lie which was launched on a conservative site, had spread all over the web and social media, including on sites frequented by black and younger readers. I wonder why? I wonder what’s behind a strategy associating Joe Biden with crack. Even Republicans elected like Marco Rubio joined in. Well, please take a moment to call Uncle Roscoe or your ornery cousin to the screen for just a second because these are the facts. There was drug abuse and overdose crisis in America, and not just crack. Also cocaine, heroin, meth, hey, world America and prescription drugs, too. Ever since the 1990s, the federal government has offered harm reduction tools to try to minimize the risks. That includes safe smoking kits, which contain materials to help prevent disease transmission. But the Biden version does not contain crack pipes, does not. Because that would be dumb and probably illegal, too. The goal is to save lives, not get people to start using drugs. Now, be blessed and go back to reading Facebook and Instagram for fun and not the news.”
Republicans admittedly have nothing to run on. Under Trump, they did not create a platform because they do not stand for anything they are willing to write down on paper. If you doubt the veracity of that statement, just recall that when reporters recently asked Mitch McConnell that question, he deferred it to the future. The Right-Wing and the Republicans will attempt to distract all the way to November 2022. We must not allow them to put Democrats on the defensive. It is they who must be held accountable. Democrats must get on the offensive and challenge them on progressive issues, the ones Americans say they want.
