Recently Jen Psaki responded well to questions about Republicans blocking the COVID relief bill but did not turn the knife by stating the GOP could start a new pandemic.
Jen Psaki needed to rub in the negligence
It seems like Republican politicians have a short memory. The reality is that while they preach a pro-life stance, their policies are more synonymous with a death call.
The following from the New York Times is probative.
WASHINGTON — Prospects looked bleak on Tuesday for congressional approval of billions of dollars in new emergency aid to fight Covid-19, and White House officials said they had already scaled back plans to purchase treatments and reimburse doctors who care for uninsured Covid patients because pandemic relief money has run out.
The impasse is a major change in Washington’s approach to the two-year-old pandemic. Until now, both the Trump and Biden administrations have been able to secure emergency money for coronavirus relief with no strings attached. But most Republicans in Congress say they will not approve another aid package unless the White House finds a way to pay for it.
“We need to have this money,” Jeffrey D. Zients, President Biden’s coronavirus response coordinator, said in an interview on Tuesday. “This is not nice to have; this is need to have.”
Republican politicians wanted the monies taken from other programs. Governors balked, forcing Pelosi to remove a modified bill that would have acquiesced to the Republican’s draconian request.
When asked about the impasses, Jen Psaki pointed out that the Biden administration has not even been able to talk to Republican politicians. They have no interest.
“I would note that there are several Republicans,” Jen Psaki said. “Who won’t even return our phone calls about the impact of the lack of COVID funding and how they will impact their constituents. So that’s probably the best place to start.”
Another reporter followed up with a similar question.
“Well, we have been making that case publicly and privately back to earlier this year so that those are the facts,” Jen Psaki said. And we’ve also been, as I just noted, attempted to engage with and have these conversations with, of course, Democrats, but also Republicans. COVID doesn’t discriminate just by party at all. I think what we’re trying to do is really be very clear and direct about what the impacts will be. I mean, some of these programs, funding for treatments for immunocompromised, providing free tests and masks, providing free boosters and vaccines as those will impact millions of Americans potentially in this country, regardless of their partisan affiliation. So what we’re doing, we’re going to, of course, leave the process in the vehicle up to Congress. We are encouraging them and aggressively calling for them to move these resources immediately.”
But Psaki did not end there. She implied that she would shame politicians in their districts in her very civil manner.
“And what we’ve tried to do is break down what the impacts are going to be on different states,” Psaki said. “And also when specific programs will end so that it doesn’t feel like just a number, but feels like a direct impact on programs and people’s lives.”
At this point, Psaki should have been going for red meat. The Republican charlatans have nothing to offer their constituents. Jen Psaki should have pointed out that Republicans have no problems busting the budget to fund the defense industrial complex under the facade of military assistance to Ukraine. In fact, they are preaching, begging that the United States spend billion without even asking for finding additional revenue. The motto should be they care little about their own but would spend on others because their benefactors profit from it. They could be starting a new pandemic with their neglect.
