Oops! Will Smith slaps Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars for a Jada Pinkett joke. Really?

March 27, 2022 By Egberto Willies

It seems Will Smith clocked @ChrisRock pretty good at the #Oscars2022 for a bad @JadaPSmith joke. Was this staged? Nope. He apologized while accepting his best actor speech.

“I want to apologize to the Academy. I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment and I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me. It’s about being able to shine a light on all of the people. Tim and Trevor and Zack and Saniyya and Demi and Aunjanue and the entire cast and crew of ‘King Richard,’ Venus and Serena, the entire Williams family. Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams,” Smith said in his tearful acceptance speech.

What a way to win an award.

Chris Rock got more than he may have bargained for as a presenter at the 94th Academy Awards. While presenting the award for Best Documentary Feature, which ultimately went to Questlove’s Summer of Soul, he made a joke at the expense of Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, whose head was shaved, leading to an on-stage altercation that was not scripted and drew gasps from the room, according to sources.

“Jada, I love ya. GI Joe 2, can’t wait to see it,” Rock said with reference to Pinkett Smith’s appearance.

Will Smith seemed to be laughing following Rock’s comment. But he then stunned the audience at the Dolby by storming the stage and slapping Rock in the face. “Wow,” said Rock afterward. “Will Smith just smacked the s**t out of me.”
