I am not sure for what purpose Fox News’ Peter Doocy felt compelled to ask White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki about Ron DeSantis’ “Don’t Say Gay” bill. But he did.

“What about this new law in Florida?” Peter Doocy asked. “At what age does the White House think that students should be taught about sexual orientation and gender identity?”

Amazingly, the Right-Wing reporter forgot that it is a state issue and that, generally, Fox News and its followers sneer at federal encroachment on state issues. So it is clear the question was disingenuous.

Jen Psaki pointed out that the administration had spoken on the bill before and reiterated the administration’s position. She used the opening to point out the law is based on misinformation.

“What we think,” Jen Psaki said. “It’s a reflection of politicians in Florida propagating misinformed hateful policies that do absolutely nothing to address the real issues.”

Psaki then points out that the law may infringe on the student’s civil rights, which is not in line with what most parents want. The administration will ensure it does not violate students’ civil rights.

“The Department of Education is well positioned and ready to evaluate what to do next and whether its implantation violates federal civil rights law,” Psaki continued. “But I would note that parents across the country are looking to national, state, and district leaders to support our nation’s students to ensure that kids are treated equally in schools. And certainly, this is not a reflection of that.”

That was not enough of a lesson for Peter Doocy. Psaki did not provide a woke-able statement, so he tried again.

“So if you guys oppose this law that bans classroom instruction about sexual orientation and gender identity in K through three,” Doocy asked. “does the White House support that kind of classroom instruction before kindergarten?”

Psaki did not fall for the bait. Instead, her question to Doocy proved his pettiness and ignorance.

“Do you have examples of schools in Florida,’ Psaki asked. “That are teaching kindergartners about sex education?”

His reply was nonsensical.

“Just asking for the president?” he replied.

I do not think the president needs Doocy’s assistance. But Psaki’s reply to him should have been embarrassing for any serious journalist.

“I think that’s a relevant question,” Psaki continued. “Because I think this is a politically charged, harsh law that is putting parents and LGBTQ+ kids in a very difficult, heartbreaking circumstance. And so I actually think that’s a pretty relevant question.”

Ouch. I doubt Doocy gets it. But it does not matter. Press conferences are for the listening audience, and she used Doocy to get the more significant point across about the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
