A reporter laid out his case for a United States-led army to go into Ukraine and push the Russians out. He must want WWIII.
Jen Psaki puts down the WWIII-seeking reporter.
It was tough to believe the statement by a White House reporter to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki. He does not understand global politics.
“Just to put a finer point on some of the questions so far I’ve been asked,” the irresponsible reporter said. “Why shouldn’t the images of the atrocities from bloodshed compel a worldwide unified coalition? a kinetic response?”
It was clear that Jen Psaki thought it was a silly question, so she wanted to make sure she understood what the reporter was asking.
“You mean a military war?” An incredulous Psaki asked. “Tell me more about what you mean.”
The reporter clarified.
“A military response,” he said.” Led by the United States and the international partners.”
Psaki continued to confirm precisely the question.
“As in bringing military troops on the ground,” Psaki said. “From the United States and NATO?
The reporter noted the incredulity with which Psaki engaged with the question deflected to the president’s statement on the carnage in Ukraine.
“Well, the president’s described outrageous things,” the reporter said. “You would call them atrocities. You’ve said perhaps we should brace ourselves for worse conditions. Why not?”
Psaki then unloaded with the sensible answer, an adult and responsible reply.
“I think what the president’s objective is and his responsibility is to make decisions that are in the interests of the United States and the national security of the United States and the American people,” Psaki said. “And that is not to go to war with Russia. It is to do everything to hold them accountable, support efforts through international systems, do exactly that, and provide military assistance, security assistance, and support to the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian government. That’s exactly what we’re doing. But it is not in our interests or in the interests of the American people for us to be in a war with Russia.”
Psaki immediately went to another report, disgusted by such a question devoid of global sense.
One hopes that the Biden administration will not allow the press to encourage us into war. As well, we hope that the administration does not use the press to make war a plausible option for the American people.
