The TEA Party was Astro-Turf that the media made real. Where are Democrats with bullhorns at GOP events doling out Democratic voted cash? Remind their constituents they voted against it.
Democrats need to use their bullhorns.
I remember being in Washington DC with several different progressive organizations and moderate organizations. Every single one of these events got very little news coverage.
We brought thousands with the NAACP for a march on the mall. Thousands showed up. Sadly, the coverage was minimal. I asked some of my folks in Houston in real-time about coverage. It was virtually non-existent.
I came up to DC to work with the Rebuild the Dream movement anchored by Van Jones. We had great educational programs. It terminated with a march on Congress. We got virtually no coverage.
Our down-the-center Coffee-Party-USA spent over $100,000 to put on a huge rally called Enough is Enough (a snowstorm showed up on the day of the event). Once again, we got very little national coverage.
I have also been in Washington DC, where a few loud Tea Party activists gathered. The media generally surrounded them irrespective of numbers. There are several reasons why. But most importantly, they were in your face. And you know what? It worked.
In the video clip in this article, Chris Hayes pointed out that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is running around the state doling out cash that his party voted against. While journalists are pointing this out, it does not have the visuals necessary to sear the hypocrisy in the minds of Americans. Democrats need to buy thousands of bullhorns and give them to activists to bird dog every single GOP event where Republicans are doling out Democratic-voted cash.
There are thousands of Progressive activists and independent media out there that could be funded with a fraction of the cost of ineffective TV ads and clueless consultants, that are ready to get results. But it will require the destruction of the status quo.
We are not in normal times. The American fascists are not hiding their moves. There is a reason for that. Donald Trump proved to them that misdeeds done in the open quickly become the norm or at least a new normal.
Time is running out. But election 2022 is very winnable. After all, it is our policies that are holding us up.
