TX Democratic Lt. Gov. candidate Mike Collier leans into Abbott & Patrick’s weapons-of-war failure

May 28, 2022 By Egberto Willies

Texas Democratic Lt. Gov. candidate Mike Collier made sure to clarify that Dan Patrick and Gregg Abbott are responsible for the Uvalde massacre.

Mike Collier pushes back

Watch Politics Done Right T.V. here.

Mike Collier has been driving and flying around Texas for several years as he learned what Texans needed and wanted. One of the things I have admired about him is that he is doing what I wish and have asked many Democratic candidates to do. Get out of our choirs and silos. The Democratic message of economic and inclusion of every form would appeal to all. It works when one delivers it with respect and empathy outside of the faux-Right-Ring unhinged framing. And that is where Mike Collier excels.

Collier appeared on All-In with Chris Hayes. Chris surprisingly at times played devil’s advocate on the Greg Abbott/Dan Patrick performance on keeping Texans safe from weapons of war (e.g., AR-15, etc.) and other gun policies.

Democrats must never leave ambiguities unanswered. Collier made sure in his interview he would leave none. Chris’ first question implied that Abbott and Patrick are not responsible for the massacre in Uvalde and other weapons-of-war killings throughout the state. Collier responded perfectly.

“Thank you so much for allowing me to speak to you on what is really one of the darkest and most difficult days of our lives as Texans and me personally,” Collier said. “You say that it’s really not Greg Abbott’s fault or Dan Patrick’s fault; what happened to that school. But I say that is wrong. You know, we had a terrible situation, mass murder in Santa Fe High School, about four years ago. And we demanded that the legislature take steps to bring us sensible gun reform. And we insisted that if they did nothing, that it would happen again, that more children would die and that they would have blood on their hands. And that is exactly what happened. And they do have blood on their hands. And we must hold these so-called leaders accountable,”

In other words, Greg Abbott and Dan Patrick are directly responsible for the Uvalde massacre. If an 18-year-old who cannot buy liquor in Texas had the same gun restrictions, this would not occur. If there were sensible ammunition, and gun-type legislation, then weapons of war would not be on the streets of Texas. Mike Collier continued detailing their failures and what he wanted to do.

I stated in a previous article that the tops of the Texas ticket are engaging very well. Recently the candidate for Texas governor Beto O’Rourke challenged Governor Greg Abbott and pushed back directly at the governor’s lying and bloviating press conference.
