Liz Cheney pulled no punches in the hearing last recently. She put her career as a conservative Republican at risk by being truthful.
Liz Cheney is a hero!
Liz Cheney is the most unlikely hero, given that she voted in lockstep with Donald Trump during the Trump administration. But she is not for sale. She continues to be behind in the polls for her reelection. But to her, it is clear that integrity is more important.
Cheney had a message for her Republican colleagues one hopes they heed.
“In our country, we don’t swear an oath to an individual or a political party,” Cheney said. “We take our oath to defend the United States Constitution. And that oath must mean something. Tonight, I say this to my Republican colleagues who are defending the indefensible. There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain.”
Will they listen? I doubt most will. Their ego will not allow them to change their behavior and atone for following a narcissistic faux overlord.
The hearings were much more informative than I could’ve imagined. More importantly, it used Trump’s people to prove that he knew he was lying to his constituents.
The design of the hearings makes understanding the protagonists’ chronology and guilt immediately apparent. If Americans continue their willful distraction from this threat, they deserve the outcome.
