Dr. Eddie Glaude calls out MAGA Republicans for what they are and urges the media to do the same. They are an anti-democratic and illiberal sect.
Eddie Glaude tells the truth about MAGA
The media and the Democratic Party too often attempt to deal with the MAGA Republican Party as your typical opponent. They are not. And the fight against them must be visible and consistent. More importantly, the party and other Democracy entities need to invest in every possible avenue (e.g., independent media, houses of worship, clubs, etc.) to ensure the message typically filtered by too much ill-repute does not take hold.
Former Republicans who have left their party or are urging Republicans to vote for Democrats to save our democracy get it. Former Conservative Republicans like Steve Schmidt, Nicolle Wallace, Matthew Dowd, and Michael Steele get it. We should heed their warnings as they know their side better than we do.
“I want to say this really quickly,” Dr. Eddie Glaude said. “We need to stop believing that some of these folks on the Republican side are actually democratic actors. Meaning they are not democrats. They’re illiberal. And when we treat them as typical opponents, we’re actually contributing to the problem because some of these folks are using the democratic process to undermine democracy itself.”
Dr. Glaude’s warning should be heeding NOW! The MAGA Republicans’ alternate universe has already taken hold of a large part of the country. Consistent, straightforward, applicable, and truthful messaging is essential. Truthful alone is not enough.
