Historian Michael Beschloss did not mince his words as he said Cassidy Hutchinson made it clear at Jan 6 hearing that Trump attempted a coup d’é·tat on the USA.
Historian reveals the inconvenient truth; A Coup.
The Jan 6 committee hearing today was explosive. Once an aide to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, Cassidy Hutchinson testified. She pointed out that many West Wing teams were highly concerned about potential violence on Jan 6.
Cassidy said that while the staff was concerned about mob violence against Mike Pence, Trump said that Pence deserved it. She also revealed an incident in the Presidential SUV where Trump got physical with his detail because they would not take him to the Capitol on Jan 6. She also pointed out an incident he said was one of many where the president through a plate of food against the wall. It was clear that the president was an immature tantrum thrower. By the end of her testimony, Cassidy made it clear that Trump was complicit in planning Jan 6 insurrection.
The reality of Trump and his sycophants’ complicity was not lost on Historian Michael Beschloss.
“Mark Meadows, this is not just one of these people off the street plotting against our democracy,” Beschloss said. “We’ve seen people like Mark Meadows in world history. And we saw them in the bunker of Berlin in Adolf Hitler’s last days. We saw them around Benito Mussolini before he was hanged in a gas station in Milan. There are people who are accessories to terrible authoritarian leaders who do extremely terrible things.”
Beschloss then went after the former president.
“But the main thing today, from my point of view, is you will remember, and everyone will remember that from January 6th on, Trump and his accessories claimed that this was just a spontaneous demonstration and these angry people were indignant about an election that had supposedly been stolen, which it wasn’t, and went up to Capitol Hill,” Beschloss said. “Some even described them as tourists; as of today, irrevocably, it is very clear and very concrete, that this was a president who led a coup d’état and an insurrection against the people of the United States. He did it from the Oval Office and was abetted by people like Mark Meadows and others. And our job now is, let us find out exactly who the plotters were and bring them to justice. But above and beyond all that, make sure that we pass new laws to make sure that an atrocity like this never happens in our country again. It almost succeeded. We almost lost our democracy.”
One hopes that Democrats and the few supporting Republicans stay persistent and strong. This insurrection was a vile attack on the United States of America.
