A new NBC poll proves one thing. Republicans, when not confronted by their party, want the policies that both Progressives and Democrats support.
A new poll makes it clear it’s the democratic message that matters.
It should not have been surprising, but it was confirming. I posted a blog about Elizabeth Warren’s speech at Netroots Nation 2015.
Elizabeth Warren proves with fact-based data that most of the American population are, in fact, Progressives/Liberals. She used the examples of the passage of minimum wage increases in four states even in a year that was devastating for Democrats. Warren went on to enumerate progressive issues, including student debt, election reform, Wall Street reform, and many other issues where irrespective of self-identification, Americans are progressive.
The new NBC poll infers everything Elizabeth Warren said at Netroots Nation then. By a 45% to 32% 14-point blowout, most Americans prefer Democratic policies.
The poll created two fictitious candidates. One candidate was assigned the Democratic message. The other candidate was assigned the Republican values. Those taking it did not know the party affiliation, just the assigned Democratic or Republican messaging. This format eliminated party affiliation bias.
So what does all of this mean? Democrats must work towards being liked or at least not seen as caricatures. After all, it is clear that most are already in sync with progressive policies. Unbiased, progressive values win big. But we must saturate the audience with our true beliefs and be ready to turn the other cheek when beneficial in the aggregate. What are your thoughts?
