Former Senator Heidi Heitkamp appeared on a This Week With George Stephanopoulos panel that included former Vice-President Mike Pence Chief of Staff Marc Short. They were discussing why Tim Ryan was not campaigning with President Joe Biden.
Marc Short thought he could get one in on the president.
“Ryan, he actually said I am not going to campaign with Joe Biden in Ohio,” Marc Short said. “If you look at his website, he has embraced many of the Trump policies. He is basically complimenting Trump on his policies toward China. So, Many people like the Trump policies. The reservation is on the personality side.”
Heidi Heitkamp would have none of it.
“A lot of those Trump policies are classic Democratic policies,” Heitkamp said. “You ban free trade; Trump wasn’t free trade. You ban, ‘let’s open the door to China, aka Nixon,’ Democrats have cautioned them.”
It is important to catch revisionist historians on the spot. Heidi has done that several times on these morning shows.
During the 2016 election, many Progressives cautioned Democrats that Donald Trump was triangulating Democrats. Trump has always been willing to lie. In other words, he will co-opt the Democratic message were necessary to win Democratic and Progressive votes.
