GOP Politicians wrap themselves in the flag of patriotism. Progressives like Gov. Wes Moore execute.

January 20, 2023 By Egberto Willies

Sorry, there was a YouTube error.

Republican politicians love wrapping themselves in the flag. But their patriotism is for show only. Newly elected Maryland Governor Wes Moore made it clear he would not allow his patriotism to be questioned, nor should any Progressive.

Patriotism

Watch Politics Done Right T.V. here.

Dana Bash asked Governor Wes Moore what he meant when he said Republicans coopted the idea of patriotism. His answer was in a form seldom spoken by rank-and-file Democrats.

“I love this country, and I have fought for this country,” Moore said. “And I will keep on fighting for this country. And I know that I come from a family of patriots, where I come from a family of ministers and schoolteachers and operating engineers and people who built this country with their hands. And I define patriotism. When I left my family, and I deployed with the 82nd Airborne Division to Afghanistan, wearing the uniform of this country, I’m a patriot.”

But the Governor was not done. He admonished anyone who would lecture him on patriotism. More importantly, he tied the January 6th insurrection, the attempted coup by MAGA Republicans, into the narrative.

“I was raised by patriots, and I refuse to let anyone lecture me about what it means to be a patriot, particularly when their definition of patriotism was helping to storm the Capitol on January 6th,” Moore continued. “And I think we need to be aggressive on this, that our country is worth fighting for.”

And then, the Governor inserted the moral and humane portion of patriotism.

“But fighting for your country does not mean hating half of the people in it,” Moore asserted. “And when we talk about patriotism, it means an ability to be able to lift everyone up, to fight for each other, to believe in each other, to believe that our country is great because we are inclusive. And so I think it’s incredibly important. And we saw that in the state of Maryland, where we ran on that. And we saw overwhelmingly that Democrats, independents and Republicans believed in our vision about what it means to be a patriot. And we will stand by that and continue to lead with that as our foundation.”

This is the narrative to change the false narrative of the GOP being the patriotic party. Their actions are anathema to patriotism.
