Stuart Stevens: Republican Party is officially a white grievance party now

March 28, 2023 By Egberto Willies

Sorry, there was a YouTube error.

GOP Strategist Stuart Stevens had an important message about the Republican Party for MSNBC Host Alex Wagner. And it was sharp.

Stuart Stevens told Alex Wagner that the reason Republicans are going through their master getting indicted is that they elected a criminal. He said the reason that the politicians stick by him is that they do not want to become Liz Cheney.

Wagner pointed out that 62% Republicans support the party over Trump. Stevens said that that was misleading.

“I think that poll is a little misleading because the Republican Party has become Donald Trump,” Stevens said. “So it’s it’s not really much of a choice. There’s no anti-Trump movement of any size in the Republican Party. What happens if you oppose Trump? You’re Liz Cheney. They throw a Cheney out of the party. So it’s an easy thing to say, Well, I don’t support Donald Trump.”

Stuart went on to explain how the party became Trump’s sycophant.

“This is where the Republican Party has ended up,” Stuart said. “It began when they accepted Donald Trump. When Donald Trump went out and called for a Muslim ban in December of 2016, everyone knew in the party that if the party stood for anything, it was the Constitution. This was a religious test. They knew this, but they didn’t stand up to Trump.”

Stuart had a prescient statement about the Republican that leads to understanding why it is difficult to get logic into its base.

“Well, it’s all about grievance,” Stuart said. “The organizing principle the Republican Party now is fear. You think about it, it’s fear of these hordes coming over the border. It’s fear of the rapists and the criminals coming from Mexico. It’s fear that there are these large, powerful forces in the world out there that have control. Party once believed, like Ronald Reagan was president. If you were born in America, you had one life’s lottery. There were gender inequalities in America, but nobody was disadvantaged because they were American. That’s now been turned on its head. “And Trump can be born in America means that you’re a victim, you’re a chump. There are these powerful forces out there. So once you become into this victims mentality, I think Trump is rallying. And really it’s all about race. It’s always been about race.”

How do you combat that? It took a lot of work to get them there. It will take much more to break that thought process.
