While Ron DeSantis spent his time on culture wars and authoritarianism, Tim Walz was busy passing laws that helped the middle class and the poor.
Joy-Ann Reid contrasts Ron DeSantis vs. Tim Walz
Joy-Ann Reid did not mince her words as she first ridiculed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for posing next to a battleship as he stated he would be a two-term president that would destroy leftism and woke-ism. What the hell is woke-ism? Does this faux-governor even know? One should want to be woke. One should want to be aware.
Reid points out that based on DeSantis’s proposal to make America, Florida, it would mean an extreme expansion of a government intent on controlling just about every aspect of a woman’s body and our educational system. He wants to police schools to ensure they do not teach black history and its realities. He wants to ban books that any Right-Winger feel hurts their feelings. And he wants to ban abortions after six weeks. In effect, it is an all-out culture war.
Joy-Ann contrasts this with a success story that enough of the media is not covering. The governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, with a one-vote Democratic majority, is passing bills that matter to Minnesotans.
The Minnesota governor passed legislation to provide families with paid family and medical leave. He increased funding for free lunches for kids. He passed tax credits for low-income families. He strengthened gun laws. He protected reproductive rights. He made housing more affordable.
As Ron DeSantis continues his culture war, Floridians are left with exploding rents and insurance. None of his policies address the issues that matter most to Floridians.
DeSantis proves that the fight against woke-ism to inflame his base, while good for him in a primary election, is bad for Floridians and all Americans.
