I did not fully convince this Right-Wing Republican about guns, but I am sure I made him think after dispelling some of his false narratives.
Talking guns with a Right -Wing Republican
It is clear that the gun debate must be had now. The problem is it is not held on proper terms. Most Americans want stricter gun control. According to a recent CNN poll, 64% of Americans favor stricter gun control. 54% believe that stricter gun control laws would reduce the number of deaths. 80% of Americans want laws that prevent people under 21 years old from purchasing a gun. In other words, politicians continuously flooding our streets with guns in the Red States are going against the wants and interests of their constituents.
The caller to Politics Done Right clearly is out of step with the rest of America. He chose to misrepresent my statements of wanting to keep Americans safe by having sensible gun control. And that is the problem with the current debate. Those who profit from selling guns have invested a lot of money in ads that indoctrinate gun fanatics. They have them going down rabbit holes as they irrationally assume that we want to take their guns or that the reason to have guns is to protect against a tyrannical state. The belief that people with guns can protect against a government gone rogue who is equipped with tanks, bazookas, F-16s, and more defies logical thinking.
The conversation with this caller is one that we must have over and over again to counter the misinformation.
