Former Trump National Security Advisor John Bolton said that he would not put it past Trump to sell classified information to foreign interests.
Bolton does not put treason past Trump
Let me be clear; I am not fond of John Bolton. In fact, I consider him a war criminal. But this man was Donald Trump’s National Security Advisor. He spent enough time with Trump to have a calculated opinion of the things he is capable of doing. That is why when he slipped in a particular statement in his answer to Katy Tur, it made an impact.
Katy Tur asked John Bolton why Trump would want to hold on to all of the classified files.
“Well, I’m not a shrink, so I can’t really read motives,” Bolton replied. “And I would stress fundamentally that the reason why he kept them is not relevant. The fact is, whatever the reason, he put these documents in jeopardy.”
John then went into the meat of his answer. And it is clear he thinks little about Trump’s character.
“But the crime here, the crime for him and every official in the executive branch that deals with classified information, is not to mishandle them in a way that puts that at risk,” John continued. “But why did he keep the documents? Because he likes to say, I’ve got it. You don’t. Because he thought it would be cool because it just struck his fancy on any given day. Did he have more malign motives for selling information to foreign governments, using it for blackmail or extortion? It’s possible it wouldn’t be out of character.”
Many already assume that Trump was likely to or is already selling our secrets for cash though it is currently only speculation. But a person who knows him well says it is not outside of his character to do just that.
