MAGA School boards hurt kids. The teachers they harassed are leaving in droves.

June 20, 2023 By Egberto Willies

Sorry, there was a YouTube error.

The Right Wing MAGA sect of the Republican party has taken over many local school boards. Teacher shortages are occurring as teachers leave their draconian policies.

MAGA School boards hurt kids.

Book bans and the inability to teach the truth in states like Texas and Florida are causing teachers to leave teaching in droves. The great teacher’s resignation may have begun. An article at District Administration could not be clearer.

The teachers of today are navigating a profession that’s reached unprecedented complexity, from state politics to strict curriculum guidelines. For some, it may be safe to say that they’ve reached their tipping point, and that’s exactly what the research is telling us.

Only 27% of teachers say it is “very likely” that they’ll still be a teacher five years from now, according to a new report released Tuesday by the Gradient Learning Poll. Generally speaking, this feeling is shared among most teachers regardless of their tenure. For instance, only 57% of teachers with four to 10 years of experience say they still see themselves teaching in five years.

The data reflects the responses of more than 600 educators and school leaders nationwide who attribute a variety of external pressures as the reason for their inevitable departure.

“It is so hard to hear the disparaging remarks of politicians, parents and media about schools and teachers—especially when I know how hard I work at my job and how much I invest in my students and their future,” said one middle school teacher in Oregon featured in the report. “I would like to see our profession given the respect we deserve.”

Teaching is the most important profession. They move knowledge to the next generation. Yet, we continue to demean them, restrict them, and chain them to the political whims of the Right. Maybe as the teachers leave the profession, enough of the MAGA Right will be voted off school boards, allowing teachers to get back to their passion, informing and teaching the unadulterated truth.

I have had several conversations with several teachers and people who wanted to be teachers. They are not in it for the money. They really have that passion for moving knowledge forward. But they refuse to do it in the current environment.

The students in the video clip made the appropriate observation. These boards are not working for them. They have their own agenda that has little to do with educating children.
